I am in NJ and have a Sprint Nextel Blackberry Curve and can't get the tap protocal to work. I have a buiulding management system that can only send a tap (Alpha tap). Ihave treid several telephone numbers. Does anyone know the correct number and/or answer to my problem.

I used the same system to dial the same phone but Verizon was the carrier and everything worked fine.

Please HELP!

Sprint does not support TAP. If the device is on the NexTel (iDEN) network, all NexTel terminals support TAP.

Sprint and NexTel are 2 completely seperate networks. Sprint owns both companies. Sprint cell phones run on a CDMA network (AT&T and T-Mobile are GSM, Verizon Wireless is also CDMA). NexTel runs a a different technology from Motorola called iDEN - basically a digital two way radio with cellular capabilities. ALL iDEN (NexTel) devices have a PTT (Push To Talk) two way adio functionality. All NexTel devices have an "i" in the model name. For example, I have a Blackberry 8350i on the NexTel network. iDEN deices are also available on the SouthernLink network.

Thank you. You have been more helpful than all of Sprint's tech support combined. The Blackberry 8350 is exactly what I am dealing with. So based on your response this should be on the Nextel network so I should try the Nextel TAP numbers or the Southern Link Network, correct?

Not necessarily - the 8350 and the 8350i are 2 distinctly different devices - the 8350 is available as CDMA where the 8350i is only available with iDEN radio. If you do determine that the device is on the NexTel network, then the TAP access number is NPA-NXX-6683 (where NPA-NXX = area code and exchange of the device. EXAMPLE: My NexTel device number is 207-891-XXXX so my TAP access number is 207-891-6683)

Look at the home screen of the device - it will have the network name in the top center (EXAMPLE: Mine says "NEXTEL" and the signal strength has NXTL just to the left of it)

OK - Then the TAP access numer is NPA-NXX-6683 where NPA=NXX is the area code and local exchange of your device's phone number
