Looks like most of the UK network have stopped this service, was too costly for them or somthing..
Have only confirmed this with Vodafone but looknig on here seems that people have had issues with all the networks.
Whats the best alternative to use? Never used anything like this before so im a noob :)

I have access to a USB 3G modem would this do the trick ?
Can always buy in a GSM modem as they are cheap tho..
Does Notepager not do the trick ? We will be running Orion and that intergrates with Notepager.

when usinc a cellular modem, it's best to upgrade to PageGate. PageGate can also integrate rather easily with Orion. |

RE: Your question "I have access to a USB 3G modem would this do the trick ?"
If you can use hyperterminal to access that modem and communicate via the AT command set, AND if that device conforms to the AT command specifications as defined in the GSM spec, then you can use it with PageGate_________________ Aaron D. Osgood

OK for people who are interested.
I have now got this working on server 2003.
***************************************************************
Details:
Vodaphone USB Modem: E172
Works fine with Notepager the only thing you need to do is startup the vodaphone software that gets installed with the device. Select the SMS option at the bottom, create a new SMS send one to any number. It should then ask if you want to allow this device to send SMS messages, of course select yes. Close down the vodaphone software and startup netpager and run through the wizard processm it should pick up the modem no problem at all. Once you have configured a recipient as well your good to go.
If you do not send an SMS first via the vodaphone software Netpager will be unable to send a message.
Getting the device to work under Server 2003:
You will need to have installed this onto an XP or vista machine. Under program files/vodapone you should be able to find the drivers folder. Copy the Server 2000 drivers to a location your server with Notepager on can get to. Now goto that server and plug in the USB modem, it will try adn install the software and then configure the device but after a few mins the splash screen will vanish with no errors popping up. It will pick the device up as a CD-ROM and you will be able to access the setup files on there.
Open up the new CD-ROM it has created and run setup.exe, it should run through the process to a certain point and then say somthing about not being able to reset the modem. At this point the USB will go through some sort of soft reset and you will loose connection to it, when starting back up windows should now pick up some new devices but complain it cant find drivers, if it comes up asknig for some point them to the server 2000 driver folder you copies from the other PC, you will need to do this for two data devices. Once done the stick will install along with the vodaphone software and work perfect.
***************************************************************
If you guys have a palce to post stuff like this then feel free to mvoe it.
Its prob similar for other USB modems from other companies.
Thanks for your help :)
