I've been havign a gamut o ferrors with a client using PageGate recently, and they all seam to involve an inability for PageGate to run after any user has logged off, either on the console or via remote desktop while console is logged in. Specifically today they are reciing an error 3043, network of disk error and seams to be the result of myself logging out of a RDP session even though teh console was logged in.

Why doe sit appear that pagegate will run fine while not logged in such as after a server reboot, but will fail everytime if a system is logged onto and then logged off again.

Check the Windows Startup list on each of the user profiles that you use to login. Make sure that there are no references to pagegate.exe

It sounds like you have PageGate running as a Service, which is a good thing, and then also have references to the application version of PageGate (the pagegate.exe file) in your startup list. The two can't run simultaneously.

I have pgsray.exe in the startup folders but pagegate.exe is just a service.

That's really strange. If the program is running as a Windows service, it shouldn't stop at all, whether someone logs on or logs off. Services aren't logon dependant, that's the whole point behind running the program as a service.

If you go into the settings of the services you do have, then go under the Log On tab, are you having it use the Windows system account or a specific set of credentials?

System account, and it's not that it stops, but rather locks up and jsut stops procesing the queue. the services continue to appear to run but messages jstu stop flowing, and I am unable to shut the service down softly. I am forced to use sysinternals pslist and pskill to kill pagegate service and then I can restart it and as long as I don't log out it will continue to execute message flow, but as soon as the server is logged off message flow ceases.

Hmm... I wonder. It sounds like something may not have installed (with regards to the services, that is) properly.

Give this a try, please:

1) Make a backup of the pagegate.mdb file (typically located in c:\pagegatedata\database\). This is the single most important thing you can do before you update.

2) Change the Run Style on PageGate to an Application, then close out of all of the PageGate applications. Make sure that none of the services or programs are running. Make ABSOLUTELY SURE that nothing in regards to PageGate is running.

3) Browse into the PageGate program directory (typically c:\program files\pagegate)

4) Move or delete ALL of the .exe files from this directory.

5) Download the latest installation file for PageGate from our website: http://www.notepage.net (click on the download option under the PageGate section in the center of the page)

6) Run the pgsetup.exe file you downloaded in step 5.

7) The ONLY option you want to run is the "Install PageGate Server" option.

8) Unless you need to change the installation directory, you can click on Next until the installation finishes.

9) Reboot the system.

10) After the system comes back up, switch the run style back to a Service.
