Is POP the only way for GetMail to receive messages or can I send a smtp message directly to pagegate to be sent?
If I can send directly, how do I point the data to the pagegate server?
We have an internal mail server, but I wanted to do everything through pagegate.

No, you can send messages directly to PageGate, as long as PageGate has a domain that it can manage. See below for further details.

There are two ways to do it, really:
If you have a domain or can create a sub-domain and point the MX record for that domain at the IP address of the PageGate Server, PageGate then becomes the 'controller' of the domain and all of your existing groups and recipients become valid email addresses on the domain. For example, if we point the MX record for paging.pagers.ca at the IP of the PageGate system and we have a recipient called 'pagers', pagers@paging.pagers.ca is a valid email address. Any time an email is sent to that address, PageGate accepts it and redirects it to the recipient.
The second way to do it is to tell the GetMail module that its 'Local Domain' IS the IP of the computer. Then you can address all of your email to <recipient>@<IP>
