Hi,
The connection wizard passes for wtcp and smtp but fails for snpp which is the protocol that we really need. We have a business internet account with Cox and they assure me that they are not blocking any ports and that we have a completely open internet connection. So I don't understand why the snpp wizard is failing. Any suggestions?

Well, to be honest, sometimes there are things on a system that can create a false negative. Which is to say, the port's actually open but the test can't confirm it, so it thinks it's negative. give this a try:
1) In Windows, go to Start - Run.
2) In the run line, type in the following and click on OK: command
3) In the command prompt, type the following and hit enter: telnet snpp.nextel.com 444
If it comes back with a 220 response, that means that you can use the SNPP protocol. If it says it couldn't establish a connection ot the host on port 444, something on the system is blocking port access. |

Thanks! You are quite right, the wizard fails for some reason, but I am able to send a message to a sprint phone via snpp protocol.
Now, one more dilemma. I cannot seem to send a message to at&t phones. I have tried using snpp with snpp.attws.net and port 444 and fail to connect. I tried from command prompt, telnet snpp.notepage.com 444 and get through, but telnet snpp.attws.net 444 fails.
I've also tried wctp protocol with wctp.attws.net/wctp on port 80, but no go.
any suggestions for messaging phones on At&t?

| That would be because the AT&T/Cingular SNPP and WCTP hosts are part of the Enterprise Paging Network, which isn't a free host available for public use. If you want to send messages to AT&T/Cingular, you'll have to use the SMTP protocol. It's the only one they still offer for free. |

Verizon Cell phones DO NOT support SNPP. The only national carrier that has opened SNPP access to it's phones is Sprint_________________ Aaron D. Osgood
