|
|
Hi,
We have a page from Orion Solarwinds that goes to our pager, and an exchange mailbox. The mailbox receives it fine, but the pager gets it in gibberish. When I try test pages from Orion, they arrive fine, and forwarding the same email from the email account to the pager works fine as well.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Lorne

Hmm... if you would, please email the c:\program files\notepager pro\npp.log file to support at notepage dot com. I'd like to ahve a look at what's actually being transmitted from NPP. |

Additionally - are you actually "forwarding" the email to the pager? I mean - are you using SMTP to deliver to the pager? If so - your issue may be that all you are reading on the pager is header info. If this is the case, you would be better off using TAP, SNPP, or WCTP to transmit to the pager, depending on which protocol the wireless provider supports (SNPP is preferable)_________________ Aaron D. I noticed a couple of things. We do use SMTP to transfer the page to our Exchange server, which then sends it to XXXXXXXXXX@telus.msg.com
On the email address of the alert, it had <box>CC at the end for no good reason. I've removed that, but because the tests always worked ok, I have to wait for a real message before I can see if it makes a difference.
Thanks,
Lorne

Finally received another page.
It's as follows:
Subj:=?utf-8?B?T0Z... more gibberish...
Does this help?

Is this happening on all pagers or just 1? If it is just one, it is probably an RF interference issue. The radio receiver in the pager is a very low power unit and is easily knocked slightly off frequency (often by being dropped). RF Interference can also be caused by electronic equipment between the pager and the transmitting tower (ever heard your PC's speakers buzzing right before your cell phone rings? This is a symptom of RF interference))_________________ Aaron D. Osgood

I don't have that file or folder. It's part of an Orion Solarwinds install, if that makes a difference.
As for interference, we receive the test pages from Orion perfectly well, as well as voicemail notifications.
Thanks for the quick replies!

Tangentally, the UTF-8 in the message you did receive is indicative that you may be trying to send HTML formatted messages... either that or your Exchange server has an 'auto' add-in that it puts in messages (This message is private and should only be read by blah blah blah and will self destruct after ten seconds, that sort of thing). It's kind of why I want to see the connection log, I need to know if NPP is trying to pass any strange formatting or if it's handing the message to your Exchange server as regular, plain text. If it is, that would mean that the extra formatting and 'garbling' may be coming from Exchange trying to send html/rtf formatted messages to a plain text device. |

Ah, if you would then, do this for me:
1) Open NotePager Pro.
2) Go to View - Dialer Log.
3) Click on the Clipboard button.
4) Open your email program.
5) Send the message to support at notepage dot com
6) Put Forum Dialer Log in the subject line.
7) Make sure your cursor is in the body of the message and hit Ctrl+V on your keyboard.
Send that to me, please |

I'm really sorry, but I can't even find the program. I go into the system monitor (Orion Network Performance Monitor) and click the blue triangle alerts button to get to the alerts settings. Any idea how to get the log info from that?
Thanks

This may sound like an odd request but, if you would, please search your hard drive for a file called npp.exe - that's the main executable from our program. Once you find it, run it and that should run our program.
Also, you could check the Start Menu in Windows for a NotePager Pro program group? If it's installed, it should be there. |

I searched for npp.exe, and it's not on the server I'm looking on. But Orion is definitely installed on that server. There's no Progam group for NPP either. Is it possible that Orion has internal paging that we're using and not using NotePage at all?

That's what it looks like but just to be sure, search the heard drive for pagegate.exe and let us know if you find anything. If not, the messaging is actually coming from Orion and you're not using NotePager Pro or PageGate to deliver the messages. |

Nothing for pagegate either. Sorry about that, Orion pointed me to your guys. I have a feeling the info about how Exchange is fwding the emails will lead me to the answer.
Thanks again.
