For the second time now within the last month, we have had a situation where the Scheduler service stopped and did not restart. I would appreciate if you could take a look into this for me.

This is very critical - we had 4 days of no messages because the scheduler was down.

Regards,
Sunil

We too are experiencing the same issue. Having been reliable for many tears (PageGate 3 and 4), we have had 3 instances of the Scheduler service failing to re-start in the last 3 weeks. The latest instance was last night and 15 pages went out late (when I manually re-started the services). NB, I tried to start he scheduler using the GUI interface first, but it did not start. I had to re-start PageGate as a whole.

The previous post doesn't mention the version. We're running version 4. Does the same problem apply to PageGate 5?

1) Make a backup copy of your c:\program files\pagegate\pagegate.mdb file - this file contains all of your registration, carrier, recipient, mailbox, and connectors information.

2) Make a backup copy of the c:\program files\pagegate\mailboxes\ directory, if it exists.

3) The last build of PageGate version 4 can be downloaded here:

http://www.notepage.net/download/pgv4.0.9.exe

4) Shut PageGate down. Make sure that the system services are stopped, close the Admin, close the Monitor, and make sure nothing regarding PageGate is still running.

5) Uninstall PageGate. When prompted, select the full uninstall option.

6) Once the full uninstallation of Pagegate is complete, reboot the computer.

7) After the computer has been rebooted, manually browse to the c:\program files\ directory and if the PageGate directory still exists, delete it.

8) Use the pgv4.0.9.exe file you downloaded in step 3 to install the latest build of PageGate (select the PageGate Server option when prompted).

9) Now that we've got PageGate reinstalled, run the Admin.

10) Ignore the dialog that pops up, just click on Apply. It will tell you a new database has been created and PAgeGate must be restarted.

11) BEFORE you run the Admin again, take that copy of the pagegate.mdb file you made in step 1 and copy it back into the c:\program files\pagegate directory.

12) It'll ask if you want to overwrite the file, say yes.

13) If any of your recipients use mailboxes, restore the Mailboxes directory that you backed up in step 2.

14) Run the PageGate Admin again. Everything should be there (carriers, recipients, connector information, registration, all of it).

15) The last thing is to go to Program - Settings in the PageGate Admin and switch it to have PageGate run as a Windows NT service.

16) Once PageGate has been switched to run as a Service, left click once on the icon of the pager in your system tray and tell it to start.

That should take care of the problem you've been having with the Scheduler not restarting but if it doesn't, please let us know.

Thanks for the response. However "pgsetup.exe /uninstall" gives me a popup in which I select "Full Uninstall", but this then seems to exit without dong anything. For example, PageGate4 is still registered in "Add/Remove programs", the PageGate registry entries are still there, and no files have been deleted in c:\program files\pagegate.

Am I doing this right?

Yes, you're doing it correctly but for whatever reason, the uninstallation routine isn't finding the original install log for the program. There is a way to manually remove the program, though.

Make sure that absolutely no part of PageGate is running when you do this next bit. Also, make absolutely certain that you have a backup of your pagegate.mdb file.

1) Delete the c:\program files\pagegate\ directory.

2) In Windows, go to Start - Run.

3) In the Run line, type the following and click on OK: regedit

4) In the registry editor, expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

5) Expand Software.

6) Find the NotePage key and delete it.

7) Expand HKEY_CURRENT_USER

8) Expand Software.

9) Find the NotePage key and delete it.

10) Reboot the computer.

That should manually remove PageGate, though it'll still show up in the Add/Remove programs list. At that point, you should be able to continue the previous set of steps.
