|

I recently upgraded from 4.0 to 5.0.7, and now I'm experiencing SMTP 530 error msgs. What is usually about this problem is that it only occurs when we use our domain or alias names to send msgs. If we use our IP address no SMTP 530 error msgs appear and everything works fine.
I tried correcting the problem by setting the "SMTP_Auth" in the registry but that didn't make any difference.
Is this a DNS or a GetMail issue? Anyone have any thoughts on what might be going on and what I can do to fix this problem?
Thanks,
Jim

If you would, please email your smtp-in.log file to support at notepage dot com so I can have a look at the command and response sequence surrounding the error.

I'm somewhat familiar with mail server configuration and if the 530 error basically means "Relay Access Denied" as it appears in the other post, then whatever mail server you are trying to send mail through appears to be rejecting your mail as if you did not have permission to send mail through that server from the computer (or IP address) that you are running PageGate on. Commonly this is some type of configuration error on the mail server itself. The most typical reason is that you are not connected to the same physical network as the mail server, and the mail server has not been told the network you are on has permission to send mail through it. The other possibility is that your mail server needs proper login/password credentials to send out mail and they are not being provided to it by PageGate.
Common examples of this are when you have AT&T as your home internet provider and you try to send out E-mail through your personal account from work, which might be on MCI's network. Your mail will usually fail in that situation with a message that says "Relay Access Denied". This is a typical security measure designed to stop spammers from sending mail out any old server they want. Some providers will stop you from sending mail if you are not on their network even if you DO have a valid login and password.
