I have a new user working with a cell phone to receive pages. We appear to have it set up correctly, and he is receiving most pages being sent. For some reason though, he loses a page and the following entry is found in the dialer log. Any idea what the issue could be? The page looks the same as other pages that are being delivered successfully. Any help would be appreciated.
David

Is the message content in the posted message the same as the other messages sent? I'm wondering if the Alltel terminal doesn't like the message content because the ID/PIN is not the issue at play.

The message content is pretty similar from page to page. There does not appear to be any reason to drop one message and then accept another. My guess is that it is something from Alltel's end of things, but I wanted to verify with support first. Thanks for the fast reply. Any ideas of what to look for next?

You might want to show Alltel a log of a good message and a log of a bad message and ask them what the difference is and what can cause the message(s) to fail.

It maybe a packet limit issue on their end - many carrier's only allow a certain amount of messages to be passed within a specified timeframe - if you need to increase the limit - they will allow it for a fee

I am trying to set up the ability to send text messages to cell phone through a TAP protocol and am getting the rejection error in the subject line. Any suggestions?

Well, the error itself means that the TAP Terminal doesn't recognize the number as valid. This can happen if you're using the wrong ID format with the wrong terminal.

For example, Nextel has a 'National' terminal that requires you to use the full 10 digit cel phone number as the ID. So, if you pass the 7 digit number, you'll receive that error.

Which cel phone company and terminal number are you using?

Looking back at the first post I see the software doing a modem reset and then attempting to send the dialer init string but failing after 10 seconds. That's a pretty long time to accomplish a reset and accept the next command.

Have you tried a different modem, that one might be flaky?

Edit: I'm having some carrier-related problems today so my TAP is running. Here is a log snip of what the "normal" init sequence looks like.... Incidentally, theis is from PageGate V5.

/23/2008 8:17:50 AM Connect using TAP protocol

1/23/2008 8:18:03 AM Waiting for connection

and so on down the line.....
