Hi,

We now have Notepager/Pagegate v4 and is there a feature that will let me group the paging groups so certain members from certain groups can get access to the paging groups they are allowed to?

Is there anyone upgrade to Pagegate v5? And how do you like the new version?

Thanks

Pam Shim

I'm not actually sure what you're asking about. Are you wanting to have certain members of certain groups only be able to see the certain recipients and groups?

Yes. Can we do that? Is it only on V5 or we can do this on both V4 & V5?

Thanks

Yes - you can accomplish this with V4 - it is a little more user friendly from the administrator's perspective in v5 though.

Aaron,

How can I do this? Is it on their website somewhere? Also what are the main features with V5? I heard that the DBstructure is different from V4.

Thanks a bunch.

Yes, the database structure is different in version 5 than version 4. We've added quite a number of security features to the program, as well as a few new functions, and have updated the database to handle the changes.

The best way to understand the way the security in version 5 works is to view the manual in the support section of our website: http://www.notepage.net/support.htm

Also, you can download a 30 day evaluation copy of PageGate Version 5 from our website: http://www.notepage.net

OK, I see the docs form the web. And saw the PG Admin Change section with security options.

What I am trying to do is preventing group A from sending pages to group B. I know that group A can't add/delete members on group B, but how about sending pages - I don't want group A to send pages to the groups that contain members of top managers by mistakes. That's what I am trying to accomplish.

Right, that can be done one of two ways. You can either use the 'lock to group' function in the PageGate Client or you can use the Display Group function.

Either way, the people using the GUI Client will only be able to see the members of whichever group you've locked them to.

Yes, I just saw this display group icon after I downloaded PageGate V5. Thank you for your patience....
I think I am covered...

I went back to pagegate v4 and try to figure out how to block one paging group from seeing the other paging group, and I still don't know how can we accomplish this. can you give me the details about how we do this? I tried to set passwords on admin, reports and client but that's not what I am looking for...Say if I have 4 paging groups (A,B,C and D), I want to have group A see only it's own group and it's own members. And group B can see only the group B's members, etc...

Pam

In PG4:

1) Create a new group called "Group_A_Display"
2) Populate the group with those recipients and groups that Group "A" can access

Now, go to client -> file -> settings

Find the "Lock To" tab

Lock that client to "Group_A_Display"

Now, that client can ONLY "see" recipients and groups that are members of the group called "Group_A_Display"

PGV5 makes this a little more user friendly and includes a routine that almost eliminates the possibility (probability in v4) of creating an endless loop (which WILL crash your system)

Thanks Aaron.

How about lock to multiple groups? Can we do that?

Pam

Not easily - with v4, probably easier to make sure that your display group membership includes all possible recipients.

EXAMPLE: We install PageGate in many Public Safety agencies. A typical implementation would have the following Display Groups:

Dispatch <for the dispatchers to use> - includes ALL recipients in database
FireStation <for individual Firehouse PC> - only has fire service members
SquadRoom <for PD Officer access> - only has PD members listed

etc

Make sense now?

Oh Gee... Got it. Do you think it will be easier with PG5 in this aspect?

Thanks
Pam
