We are using NotePager Pro through the internet with SMTP, which works just fine. We have also used it in the past with TAP via a modem.

What I would like is to use NPP through the internet, but when/if the internet fails, easily switch over to using the TAP via the modem.

This has to be easy to switch as the users will most likely be in crisis mode.

Any ideas?

Thank you,
Vin

Vin,

There isn't an automatic failover function in NotePager Pro but there is in PageGate.

In the event that one fails and you need to 'fail over' with NotePager Pro, you would need to go into the settings of the carrier and change the protocol. The only trouble with that is that SMTP uses a different nomenclature for its recipients than TAP does... so there may not be an easy way to configure that. If you were failing over from SNPP to TAP or WCTP to TAP, it would be a lot easier.

Thank you for your quick reply.

Most of my recipients are Verizon, which I believe supports the other protocols. But I do have some Sprint recipients, which I believe does not support the other protocols.

My only other option will be to either upgrade or maintain multiple databases.

Thanks again,
Vin

I've read the Pagegate forum and want to make sure this is the correct way to go, to replace Notepager.

I want to clarify, for the most part, I would be sending pages via the internet. In the case where we lose internet connectivity, I would page via the modem. I would like this to be seamless, failover or at least an easy switch in the software.

I don't want to have dual databases or have to modify the page number for each user.

If you can clear this up for me, I would appreciate it very much.

Thank you,
Vin

PageGate's Failover feature, in the carrier and recipient settings, reroutes failed pages to a different carrier, recipient or connection (i.e. Internet to modem).

Depending on the protocol settings, 2 carriers, or possibly 2 recipients would be preset in PageGate. Dual databases are not used.

Thank you, I would also like to clarify the pricing.

It looks like it is $350 for 5 client users. Do I need other "interfaces"?

I'm assuming, I can use the client program to send pages via modem or internet without additional software or licenses (past the $350).

Thank you again,
Vin

PageGate software sends pages via modems (protocols: TAP, FAX, GSM-AT, UCP, TONE), and internet connection (protocols: SNPP, SMTP, WCTP) to pagers, faxes, and other wireless devices.

The license breaks and pricing for PageGate software is per pager, etc. that messages are being sent to. For a one-time charge, a 5 Pager License is $150.00, a 100 Pager License is $350.00, or a 5,000 Pager License is $500.00.

PageGate's Interfaces are priced separately. The GUI Client Interface is $200.00.

PageGate accepts input using the front-end Interfaces: GUI, Web, Email, Serial, TAP-In, Commandline/ASCII, SNPP add-on, and Touchtone Receiver.

I have the server demo running and I've sent some messages out. I am unable though to get two Connectors running at the same time (Sprint & Verizon). Is that a limitation of the demo or is there something I need to do to get the service started?

Thanks,
Vin

It depends, do you have the temporary evluation key entered in? If not, please email support at notepage dot com and we'll give you the key that will unlock every facet of the program for 30 days.
