I've just downloaded the eval copy of NotePager Pro and installed it. I've configured a carrier. Basically I am on a company LAN connected to the internet. I configured a carrier (SMTP), supplied my domain name, created a couple of test recipients, one on KPN telecom, one on Vodafone and then gave it a go.
I sent a couple of test texts to the recipients using various parameters (Relay via my SMTP gateway or simply straight through DNS). Each recipient is their mobile number @vodafone.net or kpn.com.
My little connection history window shows the sequence of the message being sent and the various handshakes, etc such as "sender ok", "recipient ok" and so on....finally the log ends with:
Successful: To <recipient> From <me> 'hi there this is my test sms'
......but no messages arrive at any of our mobiles.
I've also tried showing and not showing the sender's name. This makes no difference.
Any clues?
thnx

Generally, this will happen in one of three cases.
The mail is being filtered by your connection so that the transaction takes place, the program thinks it's delivered the data packet to the recipient's mail server, but the packet is actually filtered before it ever leaves your computer. Norton, McAfee, Zone Alarm, and other firewall/antivirus programs can do this.
The recipient's address doesn't exist. This isn't very likely since you should get a "invalid recipient" message in the dialer log but there are carriers that function more like Email servers than SMS Terminals. Vodaphone might be one of them, I'm not sure. Basically, bring up your regular email program and see if you can email your cel phone. If you can, then the recipient address does exist. If you can't... well, you'll probably want to call the carrier to find out what you should be using.
The third potential cause is that the mail is being filtered by the receiving mail server. What could be happening is the message could be accepted by the Vodaphone mail server but after receiving it, it filters it out as spam or fails to direct the message at the mailbox. This might happen because the variable you're using as the Sender's Name doesn't resolve to a valid address on the local domain you've entered. It could also happen if your ISP or specific network have been graylisted or blacklisted by the carrier you're trying to send the information to. |

My mobile number is a Dutch number on the KPN network. The number itself is (let's say) 0612345678 .... so I should be able to send an email to 0612345678@kpn.nl and not have it bounce back to me...correct?
I've tried doing this with all the mobiles that I am trying to message via NotePager and my email program has spat them all back at me saying unknown recipient in mail list or something similar. Is it safe to assume then that until I can email my (or any of my colleagues') mobile without receiving a delivery failure notification then I can't SMS them with NotePager?
Thanks in advance.

Until you get your SMTP (email) issue resolved with your carrier, you are correct in your assumption that you can send messages to them via that protocol. YOu can, however, use the GSM protocol and physically attach a cell phone to the machine that NPP is running on. This will allow you to SMS other phones, regardless of who's network they are on. THis method is also far more reliable than SMTP_________________ Aaron D. Osgood
