We have an ERP-type system that is capable of generating email automatically for system health updates to admins and emergency errors. Prior to our installation of PageGate, all messages outbound from this system were relayed through the SMTP server built into our GroupWise email system.
We'd like to send page messages out through PageGate, but still use the GroupWise SMTP for relay of text-based emails. My initial thought would be to filter by destination domain from GroupWise, but apparently our system is not capable of doing this.
My next thought was to have all messages from the ERP system sent to PageGate, which could take the SMTP messages that were destined for pagers and send them out over a dialer, and relay the text based emails to our GroupWise server.
If I connect to the SMTP interface in PageGate, and manually send an email addressed to <pagerid>@<mypagingdomainname.com>, the server accepts it and delivers it to the destination pager. However when I address a message to any OTHER domain than our paging domain name, it's rejected with the '550 This server doesn't relay' message.
I've turned on and off the checkbox that says "Relay all mail" and specified DNS servers and a default relay host IP, but this doesn't seem to help.
What am I doing wrong, and can PageGate actually perform this way?
Thanks,

PageGate can't actually be used as a relay server. Your best bet is to create some sort of forwarding rule in GroupWise or perhaps create a POP mailbox in GroupWise that PageGate can periodically check.
Another option would be to address the messages coming from the ERP system so the domain matches the domain that PageGate uses. That way PageGate will accept the messages, then relay them back out. This will work because PageGate isn't really being a relay, it is acting like a normal SMTP server.

Actually, I did something very similar to your second suggestion. I created an "Email Only" user. In the user's config, I have it set to auto forward a copy to his GroupWise account. I then sent a couple of SMTP messages to it, which were accepted by PageGate. Unfortunately, none of these messages ever made it to GroupWise.
Another strange thing I've noticed is that even though I've created a mail only type user, the "Mailboxes" folder is empty.
I've specified a relay host, and DNS entries and tried it with "Relay all mail" both checked and unchecked. Still no joy. I'm sure it'e something I've misconfigured, but I can't seem to find what it is.
