I am trying to set up the ability to install PageGate Cleint from a Network Resource. I copy the entire contents of the CD to our IT server. I get the machine that I am installing to. I run the pgcsetup.exe, when the setup finishes it removes the .dll files and other install files. So I can't install to another machine.

Is there a certian process to setting up a common mulitple time network setup directory? I have tried making the directory read-only with no change.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Hi,

What you are attempting to do is the way I install PageGate for most of my clients - so much easier than carting the CD around - especially if you use some sort of remote access package to work on the individual station. As you've said, copy the entire CD to a network accessible location. The file you need to run on the local machine is "pgv4.exe" - that may be your issue.

Hope this helps!

Sometimes the directory attributes do not propagate down correctly, leaving sub-directories and files "Read / Write".

In addition to making the directory "Read Only" we recommend that you select all of the extracted files and change their properties to "Read Only".

1.) Open the directory in Windows Explorer,
2.) 'Edit' - "Select All"
3.) 'File' - "Properties"
4.) Select "Read Only"
5.) "Apply"

I did change each individual file to "read only", and then running pgcsetup.exe. I have verified that everything was "read only" prior to running the pgcsetup.exe again. The same thing happened again, with the read only files.

I downloaded the (single executable)pgv4.exe from the website. When that one starts is extracts a bunch of files (to fast for me to look at) but I think I recognized a couple of the file names as the ones that disappear from my directory. If the executable is set the remove thos files from the install directory that would explain why they are getting removed from my common network location (kind of cleaning up its mess after install). Tech Support is this correct?

The single executable pgv4.exe downloaded from the site is working the way that I wanted from the common shared resource. I just thought that it was funny that it kept deleting the files.

Thanks to everyone for the help!

The PageGate install routines do "clean up" after themselves.

I suspect that you may be running the install as under an account with "Admin" rights. The installer will use those rights, which may include deletion of "Read Only" files.

The other option (OzCom's suggestion), is to run the file "pgv4.exe" over the network, which works equally well.

I have been running the pgv4.exe file and things are running fine now.

Thanks for the help!
