Can't initialize the modem

I'm running PageGate on an SBS2003 server. I have a Conexant D850 56K DFVc internal modem with settings: Memory Range: FDEF0000-FDEFFFFF, DCF8-DCFF, IRQ16. When I try to page from our clients, I get this message on Dialer1 (we have 2 dialers, but only 1 modem - so only is enabled). How can I get it to dial? I have verified that I can dial by using the Windows Built In Dialer.

Usually this behavior is due to the dialer being set to use the wrong Serial Port.

Internal modems usually attach to COM (Serial) Port 3.

Your Dialer is set to COM (Serial) 1. COM 1 is usually an external port.

Please check your modem settings in Windows Control Panel.

Had to go into server management and remove the modem from the list of remote access connection points (We weren't using it anyway for that). Then we were able to initialize the modem.

You may have to disable RAS services first to do that.
