Hi,
We would like to use the Webgate as Pager-Alarmgateway in case of urgent outages on the network and systems.
Now we might have a problem with the modem. We are using a devolo
"Microlink 56k II" Modem.
With 9600, 7e1 or 2400, 7e1, I tried all init strings, but got no connection
to Telepage Switzerland:
Here the log (looks all time the same):
04.10.2004 14:49:15 ========================================
04.10.2004 14:49:15 Start connection to carrier: Telepage-Swiss
04.10.2004 14:49:15 Connect using TAP protocol
04.10.2004 14:49:15 Setting communication parameters
04.10.2004 14:49:16 Attempting to reset modem
04.10.2004 14:49:19 Modem reset
04.10.2004 14:49:19 Attempting to send carrier init string
04.10.2004 14:49:31 Unable to send carrier init string
04.10.2004 14:49:31 Dialing carrier
04.10.2004 14:49:40 Waiting for connection

04.10.2004 14:50:55 Attempting to hang up modem
04.10.2004 14:51:33 ========================================
If I switch to 9600, 8n1, I am able to connect the pager-gateway,
but then I got a checksum error (see log below). I assume that's
because of 8n1 instead of 7e1.
Here the log:

Now my question: What do I do wrong, or how can I fix this problem?
Thank you in advance for your support!

Mike

It sounds like you may want to use the "9600, 8, N, 1" settings, as you are
connecting, detecting and initializing TAP. Not all Carriers use "1200, 7, E, 1".
Most of the time, Tap terminals expect ID/Pin lengths to be a certain size.
If the length of the ID/Pin that is sent does not match the "expected" size,
checksum errors can occur.
Verify the ID/Pin number. Depending on the carrier, you may want to either drop or insert the leading "zero" or "one" in your ID/Pin.
Also, you may want to follow the directions for turning on detailed connection information in your dialer logs, which is found in this post:
http://www.notepage.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=533
The only change would be that if you are using WebGate, the default database directory would be "C:\Program Files\WebGate".
If you continue to receive checksum errors after you turn on debugging, send a copy of your dialer log (PGDial1.log) to "forumsupport@notepage.com". Please include the forum topic "Webgate and Devolo Modem" in the subject of the email.

Hi,
You are absolutely right with the ID/PID number. The error occured because of the prefix. Just using the plain number worked perfectly.
Please mention on your website:
http://www.notepage.net/tap-phone-numbers-q.htm
under
Switzerland Telepage 41 74 0900103 7,e,1 TAP, that the modem settings migth be also 9600 8,n,1
plus the additonal number
Switzerland Telepage 41 74 0900108 (V.34 support)
Thanks!!!!

We are pleased that change to the ID/Pin resolved the "checksum error" issue!
Thank you for the additional Switzerland Telepage TAP information. We have requested that the web page be updated to reflect the information provided.
