Hello,

I have setup the Carrier (Cingular) with these settings:

TAP
Phone# 18009094602 (and have tried other numbers)
BAUD 1200
Parity None
Data 8
Stop bits 1
Init string of AT&fQ0V1X4

I have an internal modem on a pc that I am testing (no serial connection)

Dialer1
Same init string
Dialing Prefix 9, (to get an outside line)
Carrier Cingular
Serial port 1 (by default)
Direct connect checked

I created a recipient with settings:

XXXXXX5274
Type Normal
Carrier Cingular
ID/PIN XXXXXX5274
(all other defaults)

I am not getting connected properly

Start connection to Carrier: Cingular
Connect using TAP protocol
Setting communication parameters
Connected to carrier
Waiting for protocol init.
Carrier rtry limit reached after 3 tries.

I'm not sure what I am doing wrong, is the init string wrong? Do I need to use a different modem?

I appreciate any help

8N1 is unusual. You should probably be using:

1200 Baud
7 Data Bits
1 Stop Bit
Even Parity

Also, uncheck the "Direct Connect" in the Dialer settings. This is only selected when you are using a direct serial connection to a TAP terminal.

You should also turn on debugging in PageGate.

1.) Create a text file in the same directory as PageGate's database file "pagegate.mdb" (the default directory is "C:\Program Files\PageGate").
2.) Rename the file to "modem.dbg".

When you change the file name and extension, Windows should warn you
about making the file unusable.

3.) Select "Yes".
4.) Stop PageGate.
5.) Restart PageGate.

Your Dialers and Interfaces will see the file (which acts as a flag) and will write detailed debugging information to the logs.

We recommend increasing the log size ('Logging' - 'Settings' - 'Max Log Length') to accommodate the increase in information being written to your logs.

We had trouble connecting to cingular with our old system as it only allowed for up to 10 digit PINs.

The problem is that cingular uses an 11 digit PIN; you must include a 1 before their 10-digit phone number. Pagegate can handle an 11 digit PIN.

So if their number is 404-867-5309, the PIN would be 14048675309.
