problem with modem "conexant softK 56" using xp

First - try to isolate the problem. I suggest attempting to use the same modem to send a fax - if the machine reboots, the issue is XP - Modem related - not Notepager. I've heard of similar issues with Conexant modems - have you downloaded the most recent driver?

The modem is receiving data either from the software or the carrier which is causes a the modem to crash the operating system. This is usually due to incorrect or bad drivers / firmware for the "hardware". Winmodems (soft modems) usually suffer these issues more so than hardware modems.

We have seen this occasionally when sending an Initialization String to a modem that contains commands that are not recognized/supported by the drivers / firmware or hardware.

OzCom is correct in recommending an upgrade to the latest drivers.
