I have a newly installed Notpager Pro installation.

We setup the 3 carriers we intend to use and one recipient for each of those carriers as a test.

When we try paging any of those recipients, we get the following error messages:

4/17/2004 11:22:14 AM Start connection to carrier: Telus
4/17/2004 11:22:14 AM Connect using TAP protocol
4/17/2004 11:22:14 AM Setting communication parameters
4/17/2004 11:22:15 AM Attempting to reset modem
4/17/2004 11:22:18 AM modem reset
4/17/2004 11:22:18 AM Attempting to send carrier init string
4/17/2004 11:22:19 AM Carrier init string sent

4/17/2004 11:22:44 AM Formatting message

4/17/2004 11:22:46 AM The recipient's ID/PIN number was rejected, or the message is too long
4/17/2004 11:22:46 AM Message retry limit reached

I have verified the setup by comparing with another customer who uses the product (eg carrier parameters, phone # etc)

PC is a Dell Dimension
Win Xp home
modem is Intel 537ep V9x DF pci
I changed the port speed to 19200

The 'Bad ID/PIN' message is caused by 1 of three reasons:

1. The PIN number you are using is not correct. If you are using a 7-digit pin, try adding the area code to make it 10-digits, or vice versa. Make sure the PIN number doesn't have any spaces, dashes, parenthesis, etc. Only numbers.

2. The message you are sending is too long, or has illegal characters in it.

3. The PIN number is correct, but you are sending it to the wrong carrier.

That's a pretty generic response!

The pin is set as a 10 digit num (the persons complete pager number including area code. We have to dial numbers here as a 10 digit). The Pin/id is correct as it works with a standalone paging system.

What determines if the message is too long? I have Notepager set to 150 characters in the Carrier setup (this is the way another of my customers has it setup and it seems to work fine) The message sent to this user was "test message, please call office" clearly not over 150 characters.

Some of the other documents on this site suggest changing the modem string to "auto" which I've also tried.

Max message length is determined by your carrier. Common lengths are 80, 160, and 240 characters. The message you sent is short, so that probably isn't the problem. You don't need to play around with the carrier settings any more. You are communicating correctly with the carrier (according to your log). The carrier simpy isn't accepting the PIN numbers you are using.

Even though our telephone carrier requires 10 digit dialing, we found that the pager Pin MAYNOT include the area code.

We'll continue testing,

That is the case sometimes. Please keep us posted with your progress.

Unfortunately the TAP protocol has one error return code that could be many things in reality. I wish we could be more specific for you.

One of our carriers (Telus BC) does NOT require the area code.

I have another question:

Do you have acarrier # for Bell Mobility in BC?

Sorry, but we don't know of a Bell Mobility number in BC. If you manage to track one down, please pass it on so will will have it for the next customer that asks.

Thanks.

Hello,
You will need to contact them directly and request the TAP dial in number. If you are able to obtain a number please pass it along and we will add it to the database for future customers.
Thank you
