BT in the UK package upto 200 SMS messages per month with some of their price plans. To use this free service you need a suitable TEXT enabled phone - all are DECT SMS phones.

http://www2.bt.com/static/i/btretail/consumer/bttext/index.html

I don't have one and don't wish to buy one but would really like the option to SMS from my Laptop modem. Apart from anything else it is far easier than using a phone keypad.

Does ANYONE know what protocol BT are using to enable this SMS over PSTN and of course whether NotePage can help in this regard ?

NotePager Pro software enables you to send text messages from your laptop using a dial-up modem (protocols: TAP, GSM, UCP, TONE) and broadband Internet connection (protocols: SNPP, WCTP, SMTP) via recipient's wireless carriers (i.e. BT, Vodafone, One2One, etc.) to mobile phones and other wireless devices.

BT and other UK wireless carrier's protocol settings at http://www.notepage.net/support.htm

Features include text messaging multiple recipients with multiple carriers, unlimited groups, reports, pre-program and schedule messages.

We only charge for NotePage software. We do not charge for the text messages sent from NotePage software.

Download a free evaluation of NotePager Pro at http://www.notepage.net/software.htm

Thank you sales, but I believe you may have missed the point in that it is NOT a wireless carrier, it is a PSTN wired system with SMS enabled.
I can see how in using the Modem a conection into the wireless carriers can be made but it does not necessarily mean the correct means of using the BT SMS allowance is being used.
I have had no luck identifying what standard is in use...so which do you choose to 'ACT' like a Wired SMS phone ?

Whilst the BT PSTN SMS system is dial-up, it is not possible to use a normal modem.

The international standard for Fixed Line SMS is ETSI ES 201 912.

A modem is available that does support PSTN SMS, it has an identical AT command set to a GSM modem. www.ntstelecom.co.uk/SMSmodem.htm

The NTS Telecom site also has documents and links that explain Fixed Line SMS.

I have bought the z-text modem and it works with a standard BT line, the supplier has offered a SDK and we have it running using a custom VB script, would be easier if Note Page just publised the settings to use
