If anyone is interested..

You can force a message to go to SMS on a NEXTEL phone by using
MSNSNPP.NEXTEL.COM port 444

The SMS message appears on the phone much quicker than via NET ALERT or the INBOX. It going across the voice channel so you can receive the message while you are on the phone too.

There is a charge for SMS but they offer packages.

OZ, I know you will see this. Let me know if you need a Govt contact for Sprint/Nextel. I talked to this awesome lady who knows her stuff and does not put you thru all the B.S. with account #'s, tax id's, billing address, etc etc etc.

Now is that would only work with SPRINTPCS. WOW, that would be great!

Mike,

If you connect a cell phone capable of using AT commands via serial port to your pagegate, you can use the GSM protocol to send SMS to ANY cell phone - you don't even need to know who the wireless carrier is. I've done this at many locations with good results. Get a low voice plan with unlimited messaging option

We did a quick test on this "new" find, and it doesn't work any better/worst then using the pecos.nextel.com SNPP connection. Comes through on a phone the exact same in both cases.
