Hello,

I am looking for opinions on monitoring and alerting software. What I've been exposed to so far either has not had any modem / TAP functionality, or has advertised this functionality but it has not worked with our Nextel phones. I downloaded NotePager 32 and was very pleased to see it work on my very first try.

I'm assuming it would work the same in PageGate, and with that software I could set up more elaborate groups, rules and schedules for sending out alerts.

What I would also like to ask is what monitoring software packages (beyond whats listed on the "integrations" link on the main page) have people successfully integrated with PageGate? I have a license for What's Up Professional (which I stopped using because TAP didn't work out of it), but am leaning more towards open source packages like Nagios.

So, what's the scoop? Any feedback you can share would be greatly appreciated!

- Justin

PageGate works in a similar way to NotePager 32 with regards to protocol usage, though PageGate has an expanded list of protocols it can use.

You are correct in thinking that you can do much more with regard to groups, rules, and schedules with PageGate.

As for integration, the only products that I personally know work are listed on the Integration page but perhaps there are other people that frequent the forums that have integrated it with other progrma that I'm unaware of.

You can integrate PageGate with almost ANY package that can create an ASCII file or stream data over a serial port. We have done so with many installations

Hi Justin,

Did you find any new ways of integrating other apps with PageGate?

I'm looking to have Nagios and IT Assistant send out alert email messages to PageGate when an "alert goes off"

What we have now is just those monitoring programs send email messages to a "set list of email addresses". This is inefficient as we have a rotating on call schedule, so we'd like for the messages to be sent to the correct personnel based on a predetermined set of groups with a schedule (which PageGate supplies).

We'd like for: one message sent to PageGate by either / or Nagios / IT Assistant & in turn PageGate will send out email message alerts based on the Groups with scheduling setup within PageGate.

So basically since an app like IT Assistant cannot tell "who" to send an email alert to based on a rotating on call schedule (it's either send it to one shared addresses or everyone's address -all or nothing) -we needed something that could send alerts based on a group schedule (I'm repeating myself, ha!).

I guess this isn't really integrating with IT Assist. and Nagios -but rather just using PageGate to send out (forward) email alerts sent to PageGate from IT Assist / Nagios.

Sounds simple but I couldn't find any other apps that could send out messages based on a group with scheduling abilities such as PageGate. We don't need the pager functionality bit at all, really just the ability to send emails based on... (well you know what I'm going to say: groups....schedule....).

Can you tell us how you used PageGate if you were able to for instance with Nagios?

Thanks for any shared info.
