First let me explain what I'm trying to accomplish and then we can work through my most recent issue.

I'm a Network Administrator who uses IP Sentry to monitor server & router uptime. I'm hoping to use PageGate to notify the Admin on call of any outages. My eventual goal is to have IP Sentry call the PageGate software to notify us of a communication failure. I'm told that I can set IP Senty to call the sendpage32.exe to page the group "Admin on call"

I'm trying to set PageGate using SNPP to notify us via our carrier, Cingular in this case. At this time I do not have any services running because all I am trying to do at this time is create a carrier, which I have done. Create a recipient, which I have also done. I right click on the recipeint and send a test message and they just sit there. I was able to telnet snpp.cingular.com from the server taht the software is running on but I can't see where to tell PageGate to use the SNPP connection. Please let me know what I've not set up properly.

Thanks!

It sounds like you either don't have PageGate set to run as a System Service or, if you have PageGate to set to run as an Application, you have started the PageGate Server option.

Our recommendation is to run PageGate as a Service as it makes things a little easier.

1) Open the PageGate Admin.

2) Go to Program - Settings.

3) Where it says "Run PageGate As", select Windows NT Service.

4) Click on Apply.

5) It'll prompt you for an account name and password. If the default system account in Windows has administrative rights, you can leave that blank and click on Apply. If it doesn't, you'll need to give it a specific username and password that you know has administrative rights.

6) Once it's finished switching run styles, in the system tray, you should see an icon of a pager. Left click on that icon, then left click Start.

Something else to keep in mind is that Cingular's SNPP host is not a public host. It's reserved for their "Enterprise Paging" clients. The only public host that Cingular offers is their SMTP host.

Thank you for the quick reply. I have done as you suggested and set pagegate to run as a service, however the pages are still queued up for the recipients. One of the Recipients that I'm using for a test has signed up with Cingular's enterprise agreement. The other has not. If that is failing shouldn't I see that in a log file somewhere? Also, what are the minimum services that I need to have running to make this work? By that I mean In PG Admin>Program>Settings>Run on this server: I currently only have Scheduler and Get Ascii checked. Do I even need Get Ascii?

TIA

Ah, I see what the problem is. Under "Run on this Server", you need to have one of the dialers set to run. If none of the dialers are running, they can't process any messages. Just make sure that Scheduler and Dialer1 are checked. Unless you're planning on reading in text files and processing them as pages, you don't need GetAscii checked.
