We are currently testing PageGate and very close to purchase. We have an internet connection and a modem. We would like one dialer to use the modem for TAP and one dialer to use the internet for SNPP and WCTP. I set dialer 1 to port zero and it works great for internet. I set dialer 2 for port 3 and it works great for TAP. I page to a large group (180 pagers) and I get a constant error message that dialer 1 cannot access the modem. How can I make PageGate understand that dialer 1 should not be attempting to connect to the modem?

PageGate should not be doing what you have described. Here are a few things to check.

1. In PG Admin under 'Program' -> 'Settings', make sure that 'GetSerail' and 'GetTAP' aren't checked. Also make sure only 'Dialer1' and 'Dialer2' are checked.

2. In PG Admin under 'Connectors' -> 'Dialer1' and 'Dialer2' -> 'Settings', make sure that 'Direct Connect' is not checked, and that 'Dedicated Carrier' is none.

3. Make sure no other programs are using the modem.

Also, what happens if you setup Dialer1 to use port 3, and Dialer2 to use port 0?

I switched the dialers around and that seemed to do the trick. This time I entered one of the SNPP carriers incorectly and when dialer 2 (port 0) could not connect dialer 1 (port 3) attempted to, but it was after it was done with the TAP carriers.

The behavior you see now is correct. A dialer that is set to use a 'real' serail port will also handle Internet delivery. A dialer set to no serial port (port 0), will only handle Internet delivery. If a message fails on one dialer, it will be tried on a different dialer the next time (if the other dialer is free). This helps get messages delivered when there is a connection problem with a dialer (i.e. modem, phone line, etc.).

Something odd is going on. Can you email me a copy of your PageGate database (pagegate.mdb), so I can check the settings?

You can send the file to: forumsupport@notepage.com
