Hello,

I am using NotePager 32 to try to send SMS's using Telstra's mobile service (Mobilenet).

The message is sent correctly but once it has been sent there is no response to enable the process to complete.

The message remains in the 'Pending Messages' list and is re-sent unless manually cancelled from the list.

I'm using the following settings:

Phone no: 125107, password: mnmail
2400 Baud, 7/e/1
Init string: AT&FQ0V1X4&D2+MS=V22,0

Here is the log generated by one of my attempts:
1/07/2006 15:32:12 ====================================
1/07/2006 15:32:12 Start connection to carrier
1/07/2006 15:32:12 Connect using TAP protocol
1/07/2006 15:32:12 Setting communication parameters
1/07/2006 15:32:13 Attempting to reset modem
1/07/2006 15:32:16 modem reset
1/07/2006 15:32:16 Attempting to send init string

1/07/2006 15:32:42 Connected to carrier
1/07/2006 15:32:42 Waiting for protocol initialization
1/07/2006 15:32:48 TAP protocol detected
1/07/2006 15:32:55 Automatic TAP mode accepted
1/07/2006 15:32:55 ------------------------------------------------
1/07/2006 15:32:55 Working on message to: (name deleted) from: Radio Room
1/07/2006 15:32:55 Formatting message
1/07/2006 15:32:55 Message contained in single block
1/07/2006 15:32:55 Sending block
1/07/2006 15:33:11 No response from carrier. Disconnecting
1/07/2006 15:33:11 Attempting to hang up modem
1/07/2006 15:33:19 modem hung up

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as it apart from this one small glitch it's terrific application.

Best regards
Bertram

That's a little odd, it definitely sounds like an issue with either what NP32 is expecting to 'hear' next from the carrier or the actual command the carrier is passing at that point.

If you go into NP32, then go to Tools - Settings - Modem, how many retries do you have it set to?

Thank you for your reply.

Retries was set to 1

Setting 'Retries' to 0, the message is still sent/received correctly and is cleared from 'Pending Messages' but ends up in 'Bad Messages'.
(And of course there is is no retry.)

This is the dialer log entry:

The Telstra service you are using is the public access using the password mnmail. This service allows you to send only one SMS message per dial in then the service disconnects. After the message has been submitted Notepager32 receives an acknowledge command closely followed by a disconnect command. Depending on the timing between these two commands Notepager32 often misses the ACK forcing the message into an unnecessary retry.

Perhaps Notepager could address this issue????

If you would, please create a blank text document named modem.dbg in your NotePager 32 directory. After you do that, send a message to Telestra and email the dialer log from the program to support at notepage dot com so we can have a look at the specific command and response sequences.
