HI all,

We have PageGate running on Windows 2003 standard server SP1. We have no problem until yesterday. After upgrade one of our Tape Driver (for backup) we found that all PageGate services are stopped. When we start these services, we get error : " The PageGate services on local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example, the performance Logs and Alert Services".
From Open Manager (server maintenance software diagnostic) we found that modem properties (\device\blablabla\) had been changed.

I can not open PgAdmin, PGClient nor PgMonitor...

Now we can not send page to our recipients. Please Help....

I don't know what changed but it sounds like, at this point, all you can do is uninstall and reinstall the program. If you can't even open the PG Admin, that means you can't modify or check any of the settings of PageGate and if you can't do that, you can't do anything with the program.

Before you do anything, though, use the Windows Explorer and browse to the PageGate directory. In that directory, you should have a pagegate.mdb file. Make a copy of this file on your desktop and make another backup copy just to be safe.

Once you've done that, do this:

1) Uninstall PageGate. When prompted, you don't want to do the complete uninstall.

2) Download the latest build of PageGate from our website (http://www.notepage.net - click on the Download button under PageGate).

3) Run the installation from the file you've downloaded (Select the PageGate Server install option, of course).

4) After the installation has been completed, reboot the computer, if it's possible to do so.

5) Try to open the PageGate Admin.

Thanks for reply.

I did save PageGate.mdb file for sure.

After that I do these steps :
1) Uninstall PageGate. When prompted, I dont choose full uninstall. However, I want to retain recipient entry and all logs.

2) Download the latest build of PageGate from your website

3) Run the installation from the file I've downloaded

During installation, I get error : " The procedure entry point I_RpcAsyncSendReceive could not be located in the dynamic link library RPCRT4.dll"
Installation continues and I still get "complete installation" window.

However, when I try to start the PageGate service, it failed. We have EventID 7000 and msg : The PageGate service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
Should I have to complete/full uninstall ??

Any idea?

Well... this is why I had you make a really good backup or three of your Pagegate.mdb file.

Follow through the same steps, only this time, choose the complete uninstall option. Above and beyond that, after the complete uninstall, you really do HAVE to reboot the system in order to remove what needs to be removed.

There are, however, a few more steps to it since we have to do the complete uninstall.

NOTE: After the system has been rebooted, use the Windows Explorer to browse to your Program Files directory. If the PageGate directory still exists after the uninstall, delete it.

1) Run the PGV4.exe file you downloaded.

2) Select the PageGate Server installation option.

3) Select the installation options that best fit your setup.

4) Once the installation is complete, run the PageGate Admin.

5) The Admin will then prompt you for some default values, of which you can just click Apply as it's not terribly important at the moment.

6) You'll then be prompted that a new database has been created and PageGate must be restarted.

7) BEFORE you start the PageGate Admin again, take that copy of the pagegate.mdb file and copy it directly into the PageGate directory.

8) It will ask you if you want to overwrite the file, say yes.

9) Run the PageGate Admin.

10) All of your recipients, carriers, module setup, and registration information should be there but you'll still need to go down to the Registration Setion and click on Apply to re-register the license with the program.

11) Go back to the Program - Settings section of the Admin.

12) You may need to set up which modules are enabled and how PageGate is set to run.

Dear Tech Suppt,

That's the complete uninstall process. I hope it will help us.

I read from web that mdb files contain all information except hardware base information. ( COM, Modem properties etc ).
If someone move the modem from COM 1 to COM 2, (or software that moved i/o address of com1/2), can PageGate automatically detect this? or we have to manually redirect it to the current port?

You'll need to go back into the PageGate Admin and go to Connectors - Dialer 1 - Settings and reset the COM port there. PageGate can't automatically detect hardware changes.

Dear Tech Support,

Our PageGate is back to online. I don't use downloaded installation source bu use original cd from notepage. The Installation is success. However, when I use original mdb, the pagegate services are back to non-responsive. So I have to take mdb from year-end backup mdb and re-run the services.

Now, our PageGate is running, all of our setting, recipient are retain. I dont event need to register again. I believe that register information is included in the mdb.

Thank you in advance..
