Hello

Can anyone tell me if the following is possible and what components we will need.

We are looking at using Microsoft Operations Manager (Monitoring Software) but be able to send out SMS's via a GSM modem when a problem occurrs!

Now someone has said to use PageGate to do this, using email. Now i dont wont to use our mail server to relay as if the mail server goes down no notifications go out! It does say that PageGate has its own mail server?

What components do we need?

There are a few ways to do what you like and it really depends on how complex the messages need to be and how they're submitted as to which modules you may need.

The simplest way to integrate PageGate with M.O.M. is the following:

Any time MOM generates an error, have it run a batch or executable. Then write a batch file that reads the following:

c:\program files\pagegate\sendpage32.exe <recipient>

Specifically, here's what happens: MOM generates the error and runs the batch file, which initiates PageGate's command line interface and gives it a recipient to queue a message to. MOM then passes a series of variables to the batch file and PageGate interprets the variables as the body of the message and sends out a page accordingly.

To do that, you'll need the GetAscii interface because that's what the command line interface functions through.

Thanks for the reply!

Just thinking would using the inbuilt mailserver do the same thing? Or will the getascii command thing.

So MOM emails a event and the inbuilt mailserver of pagegate receives it and sends the SMS?

Thanks

You will only need the GUI interface if you expect individuals to create and send messages from other PC's on the network
