Initial System setup - Webgate

I'm setting up a new system. At the present time, we are using SMTP for outbound to connect to a regonial cellular providor. I also have pagers to setup which I believe I can use one of the other protocols but I still have to check on what format I can use. My overall question is do I have to use a "dialer" for SMTP or other internet based protocols? I've only setup Netpage with a modem so far.

There's nothing special you have to set up with the dialer in order for it to use SMTP or other internet based protocols. Dialers can be sort of a misnomer at times as it's not dialing in the conventional sense of picking up a phone line and 'dialing' a number. It does something very similiar, though. The Carriers that you set up are set to use a certain protocol. That certain protocol tells the dialing module whether it needs to pick up a phone line (TAP) or initiate an internet transmission (SMTP).
