I have a group of individuals who want to receive emails and pages in the event of emergencies. My users will be sending these messages via GUI Client. I set up a carrier named SMTP to use SMTP protocol and created a group to send to the pager and the email address. The pages are successful, but the emails fail. When I look at the log it shows that the SMTP messages are being sent to my network mail server, but are not accepted. Below is a copy of the log:
10/14/2005 7:04:09 AM Start connection to carrier: VERIZON
10/14/2005 7:04:09 AM Connect using SNPP protocol

I don't remember how to turn on the detailed logging so I cannot tell where the messages are failing. I have opened TCP Port 25 on the server sending the message. Does the same need to be done for the mail server?

To enable the detailed log, open the PageGate Admin and go to the Logging Section. Under the Logging section, go to the Settings section. Put a check next to Detailed Log and click Apply.
As for why the messages aren't going through, even though port 25 has been opened, have you configured the SMTP Settings in the Global Connectors?
If not, you'll need to go to Connectors -> Global -> SMTP.
For the Local Domain, I generally recommend putting the latter half of your email address but you really can enter anything you like here.
Unless required, leave the PostMaster and Relay Server sections blank and leave Relay All Mail unchecked.
Enter in your Primary and Secondary DNS Entries into DNS Server 1 and DNS Server 2 and click Apply.

I've made the configuration changes you suggested. One problem I was having was the fact that I had 'Relay All Mail' selected. Now, I can send messages to my home email but I never receive the message. I can also send SMTP messages to devices with no problems. However, messages to the company email account are still not being accepted by my email server. Do I need to open the SMTP port on the Exchange server as well?

Does your Exchange Server give you a listing of messages that were rejected and the reason? I'd be interested to find out if it's the Exchange Server rejecting the messages or if the messages aren't actually reaching the Exchange server.

I had to configure my Exchange server to allow my server to deliver email to the Exchange server.
