We currently have a RightFax server that sends alerts via SMTP. We would like to use our existing PageGate Server (we have our own modem bank to dial out) for alerts. (I am new at this, so it may be an easy solution.) RightFax alerting allows configuration for SMTP, TAP Dial-up, UCP Dial-up, and SMS. Our PageGate currently receives alerts from SolarWinds and pages the appropriate groups. I would also like to have the RightFax server send alerts via PageGate if a Windows Service (Win Server 2003) stops running.

Thank You!

How does RightFax pass information to other programs? Or, currently, how is information passed to RightFax to let it know when to send out a message? I'm pretty sure what you want can be done, I'm just trying to piece together some information to figure out the best way to do it.

RightFax has a built-in alerting module. (with SMTP, TAP, UCP or SMS) Right now, we are using the SMTP to pass it to our Exchange server, but I wanted alerts to be a little more reliable and to trigger more quickly.

Okay...

First off, do you have the carriers and recipients you'll need to send the messages to already configured in PageGate?

Second, for each of the 'alerts' that need to be sent out, is there any way that you can have a simple text file created? The reason I ask is that PageGate can't monitor system services, it's not part of the program. However, if something else that is monitoring the system services or whatever other alert conditions there are and that something else can create a simple text file, the instant that text file is created, PageGate can assimilate the information in the text file to then send out pages.

ALternatively - since your RightFax already is set up to do TAP, you can add the GetTAP module to PageGate. RightFax will think it is sending the notification to a pager and PageGate sees the incoming as just another job request

Thank you for the feedback. Unfortunately, RightFax can't write a text file for an alert (I know we can write a script for Windows Services to write a file on failure, but the RightFax alerting module monitors items that do not appear as a windows service.) We do have all of the alerting groups configured and I will check into the get TAP module. The other question I have on that note is that when I select TAP, the only field it has is a phone number and com port for the modem. Can I do some strange mapping from the COM port to the PageGate server?

Regards,
Nathan
