Currently the pagegate server provides response by saying successful or failed.........Also it says successful when actually the message has only been queued for delivery to the pager.....

Is there any way to get more response per message.....queqed, delivered, read, acknowledged......etc. I beleive WCTP provides all this.........

Also, where can we read the log files for all the transmission.........Is the .txt file under pagegatedate the only place..........that will need that we have to continuously poll the txt file...which might not be a good thing to do.......

regards

The trouble is, PageGate can only track a message so far. Once the message is in the carrier's hands, we can't keep track of what the carrier actually does with the message.

As for the log files, you should have a series of .log files in the c:\pagegatedata\logs\ directory. Those logs keep track of every command and response issued and received to the program.

I just recently had this same problem last week when my carrier did a major upgrade on their messaging system. I have my system set up so that if the internet connection (SNPP) fails it falls back and dials out to TAP with a modem.

In this case their SNPP server was offline for most of the day so everything was going out TAP, but somewhere along the end of the afternoon it came online but was not working right and just queuing all the messages. In my case, the server sends the same response code (250) whether the message was just queued for delivery or it was actually delivered to the recipient. PageGate saw the "250" thought all was well, and within hours I had customers screaming that their pages were not being responded to.

I temporarily resolved the problem by sabotaging the address of the SNPP server so it would always fail and dial out TAP until the carrier resolved the problem, but the carrier was working closely with my on the problem and found that PageGate's detailed transaction logs were immensely helpful.

AT&T has notified me that we should be able to get delivery receipts for SMTP, WCTP, and SNPP pages sent to their paging gateways. Is there any way that PageGate can receive these receipts and we can determine when, and if, the page was received at the paging gateway?

ATT only provides that for devices subscribed to ENTERPRISE PAGING - they charge $10.00 per phone per month for the service

Perfect! Our devices are subscribed to enterprise paging. Do you know how we can read the delivery receipts?

Well, the transaction in PageGate's connector log would let you know the date and time of any message sent to the AT&T gateway (and whether or not it was successful or if it failed). You could also run a report of sent messages as well.

As far as receiving the actual receipt that the message was delivered to and displayed on the device - there is a PageGate module upgrade in development that will work with the confirmation and reply parameters of the SNPP and the WCTP protocols. No timeline on the project at the moment - will keep you advised

The PageGate Monitor or PG Monitor module has a set of log windows, which displays real time information about any transmission.

The PageGate Monitor v5 module can also be set up with a copy of NotePager Pro software to send alerts about PageGate statuses and issues to an administrators' wireless device. Download a free trial of NotePager Pro software at http://www.notepage.net/software.htm

So for instance, if for SMTP, I had:
Code:
 2:19:34 PM  ========================================
11/13/08 2:19:34 PM  Start connection to carrier: SMTP
11/13/08 2:19:34 PM  Sending via SMTP
11/13/08 2:19:34 PM  ----------------------------------------
11/13/08 2:19:34 PM  Working on message to: smtp4252142177 from: test@att.com
11/13/08 2:19:34 PM  Formatting message
11/13/08 2:19:34 PM  Message contained in single packet
11/13/08 2:19:34 PM  Looking up mailserver for page.att.net
11/13/08 2:19:34 PM  Trying host: page.att1.unimobile.com
11/13/08 2:19:34 PM  Connected to: page.att1.unimobile.com
11/13/08 2:19:38 PM  Sending message
11/13/08 2:19:38 PM  Message sent

Would I consider it received at the Enterprise Paging gateway at 2:19:34 or 2:19:38?

Then for SNPP:
Code:
 2:20:38 PM  ========================================
11/13/08 2:20:38 PM  Start connection to carrier: SNPP
11/13/08 2:20:38 PM  Connect using SNPP protocol
11/13/08 2:20:39 PM  Connected to Host (snpp.att.net:444)
11/13/08 2:20:39 PM  SNPP Session Started
11/13/08 2:20:39 PM  ----------------------------------------
11/13/08 2:20:39 PM  Working on message to: snpp4252142177 from: 2222222222
11/13/08 2:20:39 PM  Formatting message
11/13/08 2:20:39 PM  Message contained in single packet
11/13/08 2:20:39 PM  Sending message
11/13/08 2:20:42 PM  Message sent

Would it be 2:20:39 or 2:20:42?

Then for WCTP:
Code:
2:21:32 PM  ========================================
11/13/08 2:21:32 PM  Start connection to carrier: WCTP
11/13/08 2:21:32 PM  Send using WCTP protocol
11/13/08 2:21:32 PM  ----------------------------------------
11/13/08 2:21:33 PM  Working on message to: wctp4252142177 from: 3333333333
11/13/08 2:21:33 PM  Formatting message
11/13/08 2:21:33 PM  Message contained in single packet
11/13/08 2:21:33 PM  Sending message to http://wctp.att.net/WCTP
11/13/08 2:21:38 PM  Message sent

Would it be 2:21:32, 2:21:33, or 2:21:38?

Thanks!

the "Message Sent" text is stamped by PageGate when it receives the acknowledgement of successful protocol negotiation and end of message checksum from the carrier. This is the point at which the reveiving carrier has told PageGate "I have the message, it is properly formatted, and the destination ID is valid". PageGate is done at this point and the message is entirely in the wireless carrier's hands from that point forward
