We use PageGate with a variety of carriers, primarily ARCH Wireless via WCTP. When the sender enters their username in the same manner that their e-mail address is formed, our "two-way" paging users can "reply" to the message and have it show up in the sender's incoming e-mail. Really convenient! I can see in our log files where the senders address is sent out, as in the following:

<wctp-ClientOriginator senderID="joe.schmoe@mydomain.com" />

My question is whether the SNPP protocol supports this feature? When we send messages to SNPP-based recipients (like Nextel), they can compose a reply but it goes off into the ether somewhere and never shows up back at the original sender's in-box. In looking at the PageGate log files, it does not appear that the sender's address is being submitted to the carrier at all.

And yes, I'm aware that we could use SMTP, but we're trying to avoid any use of this transport whatsoever...

TIA!

Doug

Unfortunately the SNPP protocol doesn't have any support for a sender's address. This is one place where the WCTP protocol is better than the SNPP protocol.

Darn! OK, that's what I was afraid of... Next question - How do we get all the carriers to use WCTP??? (No need to answer, just wishful thinking on my part....)
