I am having a problem sending certain messages to Verizon using TAP. I have two applications that use getmail and Verizon TAP to send messages to my Blackberry. One works fine. When the second attempts to send a message the dialer log shows the message being slpit into two blocks. When the attempt is made to send the first block the message I displayed in the log is is "No Response from carrier: Disconnecting". I've tried two differnt TAP numbers, changing the BAUD rate and changing the Max Characters in the carrier settings but nothing seems to work. Has anyone experienced this type of problem?

Just to be sure I understand the problem, you're running PageGate with two dialers. When Dialer1 attempts the connection to the Verizon TAP Terminal, everything goes fine. When Dialer2 attempts the connection, you get "No response from carrier", correct?

No. I have two programs, Whats Up Gold and IBM Netfinity Director which send SMTP messages to Pagegate which then sends the messages to us through Dialer1. The WUG messages go through fine. The NF Director messages are slpit into two blocks and get the disconnect message when trying to send the first block.

That's odd... two things. First, please email all of the .log files from your PageGate directory to support at notepage dot com

Second, go into the PageGate directory from the Windows explorer and go into the properties of the PageGate.exe file. Go under the version tab and let me know what build you're running.

Ah, I see what the problem is. You're running an older build of PageGate that doesn't have some of the newer TAP commands for the dialers, hence why the Verizon terminal was disconnecting on you. There are two ways to update PageGate, this is the comprehensive one that'll make sure every last dll for the program is updated:

1) Make a backup copy of your c:\program files\pagegate\pagegate.mdb file - this file contains all of your registration, carrier, recipient, mailbox, and connectors information.

2) Make a backup copy of the c:\program files\pagegate\mailboxes\ directory, if it exists.

3) We've posted a new build of PageGate on our website, so download the new installation from here:

http://www.notepage.net (just click on the download button under the PageGate section in the center of the page).

4) Shut PageGate down. Make sure that the system services are stopped, close the Admin, close the Monitor, and make sure nothing regarding PageGate is still running.

5) Uninstall PageGate. When prompted, select the full uninstall option.

6) Once the full uninstallation of Pagegate is complete, reboot the computer.

7) After the computer has been rebooted, manually browse to the c:\program files\ directory and if the PageGate directory still exists, delete it.

8) Use the pgv4.exe file you downloaded in step 3 to install the latest build of PageGate (select the PageGate Server option when prompted).

9) Now that we've got PageGate reinstalled, run the Admin.

10) Ignore the dialog that pops up, just click on Apply. It will tell you a new database has been created and PAgeGate must be restarted.

11) BEFORE you run the Admin again, take that copy of the pagegate.mdb file you made in step 1 and copy it back into the c:\program files\pagegate directory.

12) It'll ask if you want to overwrite the file, say yes.

13) If any of your recipients use mailboxes, restore the Mailboxes directory that you backed up in step 2.

14) Run the PageGate Admin again. Everything should be there (carriers, recipients, connector information, registration, all of it).

15) The last thing is to go to Program - Settings in the PageGate Admin and switch it to have PageGate run as a Windows NT service.

16) Once PageGate has been switched to run as a Service, left click once on the icon of the pager in your system tray and tell it to start.

I did all of that but now when I try to send the smtp message my software (WUG and NF Director) tell me that the message was refused. If I look at the services there is a Pgmailservice that is not started (it is set to manual) If I try to start it I get an error 1053 The Service did not respond to the start request in a timely fashion.
One odd thing, when I uninstalled the original software my options were automatic or custom. I chose automatic and the program was removed from Add/Remove programs list. When I rebooted however all of the services and the systray object started. All of the software remained in the \\program files\pagegate directory. I deleted it manually and did the install and followed the instructions to the end.

The problem has been resolved. For Verizon I changed the modem initialization string in carrier settings to auto and the messages are now getting through. For Cingular I switched to a new TAP number listed on the Pagegate support site.
Thanks for you help.
