Thanks for providing what looks like a package that will do exactly what I need. However, I am a little confused... I need to send a test message to my phone via the software using a directly-connected Siemens TC35 modem. The instructions aren't clear to what carrier Protocol I should be using (the Orange SMSC is +447973100973). Can you help me with this test??

Many thanks
Mark

Set the carrier's protocol to 'GSM'

Try setting the communication settings to:
9600 baud
no parity
8 data bits
1 stop bits.

Support,

Have tried these settings but the Dialler1 Autoscroll screen just says 'Warning: unable to access modem...'

Any ideas what could be going wrong - do I need an Init string for teh Siemens TC35?

Support,
Ignore the previous message - seems to be OK now. Could you suggest an ASCII format to send an SMS, or point me to the right page in the manual - I need to do a final test on GetASCII..

Many thanks

In the PageGate help file, go to 'Modules' -> 'GetAscii' -> 'Using ascii text files'

If you don't have any control of how the text files are written (name, format, etc.), then also look in the section 'Advanced polling' under the same heading.

Support,
Now that the carrier works, GetASCII refuses to accept the text file I have prepared, details are:

Format:
{[07971284993]>Test message to me<}

Symbols:
End of record symbol = }

Record
Start pattern = { offset = -999 End = } offset = -999

Recipient (dynamic)
Start pattern = [ offset = -999 End = ] offset = -999

Sender = fixed

Message
Start pattern = > offset = -999 End = < offset = -999

The error message reported is:
'Recipient record not found of ascii service not enabled for recipient'

I thought a recipient was defined within the file? Can you help?
Thanks
Mark

Try these settings:

Symbols
Single character wildcard: ?
Multiple character wildcard: *
End of record symbol: ~
Ascii value delimiter: \

Record
Start Pattern: {
Start Offset: 1
End Pattern: {
End Offset: -1

Recipient
Dynamic Recipient
Start Pattern: [
Start Offset: 1
End Pattern: ]
End Offset: -1

Sender
Static Sender
FromMe

Message
Dynamic Message
Start Pattern: >
Start Offset: 1
End Pattern: <
End Offset: -1

Be sure that you have a recipient setup in PageGate named 07971284993 before the test.

If this doesn't work, please post what the GetAscii log says when it tries to process the file.

Thanks for this...

1. I now get 'Error sending packet' (see below) when the text file is processed (file correctly parsed this time).

2 A problem though, I need the application to work with an external application that will be creating the recipients and messages; PageGate will not be aware of the recipient information as it changes from message to message. Reading through the manual, it does make reference to this type of dynamic recipient, so why do I need to add it first?

Thanks
Mark

Typically, when sending messages with the GSM protocol, the sender must be a valid mobile phone number (the phone number of the device you are sending out through).

You will need to use an ad-hoc recipient in PageGate so that you can specify the destination phone number inside the messages. The regular evaluation mode will not allow you to test this. Please send your email address to me (chris@notepage.com), and I will send you a 30 day evaluation key that will unlock the ad-hoc capability.
