After setting up Page Gate as the server on a Windows XP Home computer I am having problems with the clients not always being able to connect. To many network shares? Any insight?

Microsoft has limited the number of concurrent connections to a shared folder in Windows XP Home to 5. In XP Pro the limit is 10. It is quite a step backwards from 95, 98, and ME where there was no imposed limit.
It is something that is not advertised by Microsoft, and I don't know of a workaround other than using an older operating system on the 'server' computer, or install a server operating system. |

Does Windows 2000 Professional suffer from the same problem? and if so what are the amount of shares limited to on it?
Thanks

Unfortunately Windows 2000 Pro is also limited to 10 concurrent connections. Win 2000 Server is probably your best bet, or if you are not in need of high performance, revert back to Windows 98se on the workstation acting as the paging server.
You may find workarounds to the Windows connection limits on the web, but they aren't technically legal. |
