Had a strange problem with PageGate.

Was working fine with 3 carriers (arch, nextel and BNN) I added Verizon so I could text message some cell phones and ran into a problem.

I could text message the phones directly from the PageGate Server and from the ASCII interface with no problem but pages from the GUI client would be rejected.

I found that the GUI clients all had their user names enclosed in % symbols like this example
%username% when this was sent to the pagers it came out as %username%@myorg.com

All the other companys accepted this with no problems but not Verizon. Make sure that your user and domain names are in standard format with no special characters or verizon will reject it.

Hope this helps someone, it took me almost an entire night to figure this out

Kevin

PS: Does anyone have a way to text message Verizon Phones in NY other than SMTP via vtext.com ?? Would rather use SNPP but no one at Verizon could help with it.

The only other way I know if is to use a regular modem and the TAP protocol. Verizon't TAP phone number is 866-823-0501.

The initializtion string is hardware specific.

Set the init string to "auto" in the Carrier settings.

Then let PageGate auto detect the correct string for YOUR modem (at 1200 Baud Rate).
