File extensions must be "turned on" in Windows, so that connection debugging can be started.

To turn on file extensions in Windows 2000 / XP:

1.) Open Windows 'Control Panel'
2.) Select 'Folder Options'
3.) On the 'View' tab, under "Advanced settings", clear (uncheck) "Hide (file) extensions for known file types".
4.) Select "OK"

In Windows 95/98/ME:

1.) Open Windows 'Control Panel'
2.) Select 'View' on the menu bar
3.) Select 'Folder Options'
4.) On the 'View' tab, under "Advanced settings", clear (uncheck) "Hide file extensions for known file types".
5.) Select "OK"

To start connection debugging in NotePager Pro:

1.) Create a text file in the folder "C:\Program Files\NotePager Pro".
2.) Rename the file to "modem.dbg".

When you change the file name and extension, Windows should warn you about making the file unusable.

3.) Select "Yes".

NotePager Pro will see the file (which acts as a flag) and will write detailed connection information to the file named "npp.log".

We recommend increasing the log size ('Tools' - 'Settings' - 'General' - 'Max Log Length') to accommodate the increase in information being written to your dialer log ("npp.log").
