Verizon has discontinued support for its TAP service effective 2/1/2015. If you have the Verizon TAP system configured in NotePager Pro or PageGate, this configuration will no longer function.
To quote Verizon's support page:
"Beginning 01/31/2015 we will no longer offer support for TAP (Telelocator Alphanumeric Protocol). If you are using a modem-based 1-800 TAP service to send text messages through our network, contact your business sales team for support."
If you or your organization are not part of an Emergency Management Service, unfortunately, this only leaves SMTP as a viable protocol for delivering messages to Verizon cell phones and you will need to update your configuration from TAP to SMTP.
If you or your organization are part of an Emergency Management Service, you can register on the Verizon Enterprise Messaging Access Gateway (EMAG, for short) by contacting your organization, city, county, state or regional Verizon Representative and requesting their assistance to register. Once the registration is complete, this will provide you with access to use SNPP, WCTP or SMTP to deliver your messages.

We need more how to in switching ours to SMTP. When we switch it we are asked for a local domain. Please help.

SMTP configurations vary from network to network. Some networks allow direct SMTP over port 25, others require that you relay traffic.
To determine which variety of SMTP is available to you, there is a connection test you'll need to run that requires the Telnet Client to be enabled in Windows.
If you use Windows XP or Server 2003, the Telnet Client is enabled by default.
If you use Windows Vista, 7, 8/8.1, Server 2008 or Server 2012, you will need to enable the Telnet Client.
Here's how to enable the Telnet Client in Windows Vista, 7 or Windows 8/8.1:
1) In Windows, open the Control Panel.
2) In the upper right hand portion of the Control Panel, set “View by” to Small Icons.
3) In the Control Panel, open Programs and Features.
4) On the left hand side, click on "Turn Windows Features on/off"
5) Put a check next to Telnet Client.
6) Click on OK.
Here's how to enable the Telnet Client in Server 2008 or Server 2012:
1) In Windows, open the Server Manager.
2) On the left hand side, click on Features.
3) On the right hand side, click on Add Feature.
4) In the Features list, put a check next to Telnet Client.
5) Click on Next.
6) Click on Install.
After the telnet client has been enabled, this is the port test you'll want to run:
1) In Windows, run a Command Prompt.
2) In the Command Prompt, type the following and hit enter:
telnet smtp-bb.vtext.com 25
If port 25 is open and there are no outstanding issues with the public IP address the system sits behind, you'll receive a 220 response. This is the best possible response you can receive.
If port 25 is open but there is an outstanding issue with the public IP the system sits behind, you'll receive a 554 or a 421 rejection notice. This indicates that your public IP is on a blacklist, so you will need to determine which blacklists you're on. To do that, from the computer running the software, go to www.whatismyipaddress.com and get your public IP. Then click on the Blacklist Check option at the top of the page and run the test. Any list that has a red ! next to it is a list the IP address is on, so you'll want to go to each of those links and go through their provided lookup and removal steps. Once your IP is off of those blacklists, you can use direct SMTP from that system.
If port 25 isn't open at all, you'll receive a response that says "Unable to establish a connection to the host on port 25".
If port 25 isn't open, you may be able to have it opened but you will need to speak with your IT staff or internet service provider's tech support.
If port 25 is open, you can use the direct method of delivery.
If port 25 is closed, you must relay your traffic through an SMTP server and you will need to contact your local IT staff or internet service provider's tech support and ask them the following questions:
1) What SMTP Server can you use?
2) What port should you connect to that server on?
3) Does that server require authentication?
3a) If the server does require authentication, what styles of authentication are supported and what username and password should you use to authenticate with?
If you use NotePager Pro and port 25 is open, this is what you'll want to do:
1) Open NotePager Pro.
2) Go to Carriers - Edit.
3) Highlight your Verizon carrier and click on Edit.
4) Set the following:
Protocol: SMTP
Local Domain: Set this to your email domain, or the part of your email address after the @. This value MUST be your email domain and should not be set to any other value.
5) Select Deliver Directly to Destination Server and enter your primary and secondary DNS entries in to the box provided.
6) Click on Apply.
7) Close the Edit Carrier List.
8) Go to Tools - Settings - General.
9) Make sure that you have a value in the Sender's Name field. The Sender's Name can be any alphanumeric sequence but cannot include special characters or spaces.
10) Click on Apply.
11) You will need to go in to the settings of every recipient tied to the Verizon carrier and enter 10digitcel@vtext.com (ex;7818290500@vtext.com) in the Email To field.
If you use NotePager Pro and you must relay your traffic through an SMTP server that supports AUTH, PLAIN or CRAM-MD5 authentication, this is what you'll want to do:
1) Open NotePager Pro.
2) Go to Carriers - Edit.
3) Highlight your Verizon carrier and click on Edit.
4) Set the following:
Protocol: SMTP
Local Domain: Set this to your email domain, or the part of your email address after the @. This value MUST be your email domain and should not be set to any other value.
5) Select "Deliver through local mail server"
6) In the Relay Server field, enter the SMTP server address.
7) In the Password field, enter the required username and password, separated by a pipe. For example: username@maildomain.here|Password
8) Click on Apply.
9) Close the Edit Carrier List.
10) Go to Tools - Settings - General.
11) The Sender’s Name MUST match the authentication account name.
12) Click on Apply.
13) You will need to go in to the settings of every recipient tied to the Verizon carrier and enter 10digitcel@vtext.com (ex;7818290500@vtext.com) in the Email To field.
If you use NotePager Pro and you must relay your traffic through an SMTP server that requires SSL or TLS authentication, you will need to upgrade to our server based platform, PageGate. Please contact our Sales Department at sales@notepage.com for more information.
If you use PageGate version 7 and port 25 is open, this is what you'll want to do:
1) Open the PageGate Admin.
2) Go in to the Settings of your Verizon carrier.
3) Set the following:
Protocol: SMTP
Carrier Domain: vtext.com
Port: 25
Max Chars: 160
4) Click on Apply.
5) Go to the Program – Template section.
6) In the Settings template on the right hand side, set this variable:
InternetDomain = Your Email Domain
Example:
InternetDomain = youremaildomainhere.com
7) Click on Apply.
If you use PageGate and you must relay your traffic through an SMTP server, this is what you'll want to do:
1) Open the PageGate Admin.
2) Go in to the Settings of your Verizon carrier.
3) Set the following:
Protocol: SMTP
Carrier Domain: vtext.com
Port: Set this to the port and SSL/TLS method required by your SMTP Server
Max Chars: 160
4) Click on Apply.
5) Go to the Advanced sub-section of your Verizon carrier.
6) Select “Deliver through local/ISP mail server” and enter the SMTP Server address in the Relay Server field.
7) Enter your authentication credentials in the username and password fields.
8) Click on Apply.
9) Go to the Program – Template section.
10) In the Settings template on the right hand side, set this variable:
InternetDomain = Your Email Domain
Example:
InternetDomain = youremaildomainhere.com
11) Click on Apply. |

Can you provide the link on the Verizon Support Page that states they are discontinuing TAP support? I can not find it on their search engine or google search.
