We are located in US, and recently moved away from using an analog dial up modem connection of the publicly available TAP dial in service, to
using Verizon EMAG gateway and sending alerts through the
internet using SNPP. However, it relies on internet connection where our Orion instance is located.

We lost internet at that site for a half hour, along with dozens of other sites outside of it's DMZ it monitors for availability,
so Orion was unable to send out alerts. So, to overcome this, we're investigating use of a cellular modem, but not sure what model, and how that would work with the EMAG gateway we currently subscribe to.

We want to continue to use SNPP, not TAP, so how would we configure notepager pro to work with SNPP and a cellular modem?

Can we keep the same Notepager Pro Verizon carrier and recipient settings as we have now to reach the Verizon SNPP gateway address,
but simply ported over the cellular, or by process, would we require bypassing the EMAG gateway altogether.

We don't use SMS txt i.e. @vtext, we're using 10 digit numbers to run through the SNPP gateway and have inter-carrier codes set up so we're able to port Sprint, AT&T, and Verizon phones all through the same gateway to send messages.

NotePage software supports cellular modems with the AT Commands. In NotePager Pro, this is listed in the carrier's Protocol drop-down list as GSM-AT. The cellular modem will need SMS or text messaging service from Verizon or another local carrier. People have found Multi-Tech cellular modems work well.

SNPP gateways only accept messages over an internet connection. Relying on cellular modems is better when using SolarWinds with NotePage software.

Does your machine have a serial or USB connection for the modem?

If you choose to go with a cellular modem, you will not use SNPP for that device. Messages are actually transmitted as MO/MT (Mobile Originated/Mobile Terminated) SMS on the cellular network control channel (the same channel that your phone uses to "talk" with the network as you drive around. In your case, you would use Carrier level failover. The message would try the existing SNPP method, and if it could not get through, would "failover" and use the cellular modem

With a serial modem and especially a USB cellular modem, you may want to consider using PageGate software instead.

PageGate has more robust support for cellular modems. PageGate also runs as a Windows Service, and isn't login dependent.
