Hi, I'm running PageGate v5.0 on a virtual machine with 2GB RAM running Windows 2008 with Service Pack 1. The application ran fine for a couple of weeks and then one day then stopped sending pages. When I checked the virtual machine I noticed that the CPU was at 100%. I was not even able to get the machine to shutdown and I ended up powering down the VM.

After the machine came back up, I stopped the PageGate service and rebuilt the database and then started it again. It run fine for over a week and then the same thing happened again. I've seen the issue where the application runs at 100% CPU while sending pages in v4.0, but I never had the application actually stop working.

Is this a known 5.0 issue?

Regards,
Rory

Yes, it was an issue in one of the earlier builds of PageGate version 5.0. It's possible that updating to the last build of version 5 we released may resolve the issue but I'd strongly recommend upgrading to version 6.0 anyways, especially since you're using Server 2008. There are certain operating system compatibility issues that we have long since resolved in version 6 that are still present in version 5. Just let me know which you'd like to go with and I'll provide the related steps.

It looks like upgrading to 6.0 would be the best option. Are there migration steps for the database?

Rory

The installation set for v6 includes an automatic DB upgrade utility that automatically runs as part of the installation

If you're going to be leaving everything on the same system, the database will automatically be upgraded as part of the process. If you're going to be transferring servers, on the other hand, let me know what OS you're going to be transferring to and the location of your existing Database directory and I'll provide the step by step instructions on how to transfer PG from one server to another without losing any of your data.
