Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this type of GSM modem? We're looking to replace the USB thumbdrive style modems currently being used. One site claims it is a Wavecom modem, but the Wavecom site doesn't have a product of this description listed, so I'm a little suspicious of that claim.

http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/569937618/8_port_modem_pool_GSM_GPRS.html

The website is a little light on software compatibility information, will be sending them a request for more information, but I doubt they would have tested their product with PageGate.

Thanks

We install MultiTech MTC series devices exclusively. With hundreds of these devices in service with PageGate, we have never experienced a problem on the customer side.

Thanks Aaron, I'll let the boss know when he gets back from Holidays. If we go down that path, I'll be in touch.

did you get my last email with the logs attached that I couldn't send through to J @ Tech Support?

Hi Aaron,

the MultiTec units, are they configured as a single interface/connector or as separate interfaces/connectors?

Each Cellular modem occupies 1 connector. It is considered best practice to have at least 1 extra connector NOT tied to a specific carrier to handle Internet based protocola (SNPP, WCTP, File, SMTP, etc). EXAMPLE: If you have 2 cellular modems you should have a total of 3 connectors. Set up a dedicated CARRIER using the GSM-AT protocol and tie both of the cellular modems to that carrier.

Remember - each modem requires a COM port. PageGate interacts with the modem by writing "AT" commands to the COM port

Thanks Aaron,

The boss spotted a 4port unit on the suppliers site, so we'll probably purchase that unit, we currently only have an 8 connector license with 3 of them already in use.

Do you have a link to the 4 port unit?

Hi Aaron,

Sorry only just logged onto forum after a few days away and saw your request. Here's the link

http://hkbailing.en.alibaba.com/product/532468483-213112725/4_port_modem_pool_new_arrival_4_port_GSM_bulk_sms_modem_pool.html

We've ordered one, but there's been a delay in the supply of the chassis, and due to the time frame, we may have to go back to the 8port unit

Cheers,
Barry

I suspect you'll have issues with that device due to the MS Windows to COMPort driver issues. Good luck!

Most of my installations that require multiple Cellular Modems use RS-232 SERIAL devices - often driven through a multiport serial adaptor. I have had good luck with these:

http://lavalink.com/products/pci-bus-io-cards/

I have several sites running up to 16 MultiTech cellular devices connected to the server with Lava port expanders

I have also tried modems from numerous other manufacturors but keep going back to the Multiech MTC series because they just work ALL THE TIME

Hi Aaron,

Modem arrived yesterday, just got to hook up today. Yep, first issue, the 4 "modems" are recognised as USB Serial ports (21 to 24), no drivers supplied with modem. PageGate only has 16 Serial ports in the available list, just forcing Windows to reassign lower com port numbers.

Will let you know how it goes.

Hi Aaron,

just an update. Changed the Serial ports on the USB 4port modem to below Com17. Configured PageGate with new Carrier (SMS-4) on Connector 3, set myself up to use that carrier and successfully sent SMS on second attempt. First attempt failed because I counted the ports from Left to right, forgot Chinese count right to left.

A quick question,

now that we have this 4 port modem (not fully populated) is there an easy way to change all the recipients to the new modem (SMS-4)

i.e. change everyone's carrier from internal_server to SMS-4 EASILY?
