Sometimes, PageGate gets stuck during midnight cleanup routine. There is nothing in the logs to indicate anything other than it is trying over and over to start.

The PGSched is in the "Starting..." state in services. Often, I can stop everything and restart and it is fine.

Here is the question:

Does the midnight cleanup routine require exclusive access to the mdb database? Would a third party integration that happens to write to the database during the cleanup routine cause PageGate to get stuck?

Is there anything else to watch out for related to this when accessing the database from a third party program?

Yes. PageGate attempts to compact the database, which requires exclusive access. However, if PageGate can't lock the database, it should continue anyway.

I guess it depends on what is being written. Changes to the 'messages' table should be alright. Others might be a problem.

What are the version numbers of the pagegate.exe, pgsched.exe and pgdial1.exe files? If you aren't using a current version, perhaps a version upgrade would help.

Stay away from changes to the 'settings' and 'control' tables.
