|
|
Hi,
I am evaluating Pagegate for my company. I have a multitech external modem MT5634ZBAV-V92 connected to a windows 2008 r2 server. I need for pagegate to send a page to our pager(American Messaging).
I have the TAP number from american messaging and configured it as follows under carrier
baud 2400
parity none
data bits 8
stop bits 1
init string ATE0
I have another monitoring solution that uses the exact settings for the pager company. The only difference is its on another server.
The modem will successfully dial from this computer to the TAP number via hyper terminal.
However, I cannot get pagegate to successfully connect. I have attached the log from the connector. The modem never gets past protocol initialization.
Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

From what I know of the American Messaging TAP system, your communication parameters are incorrect.
Right now, you're using 2400, 8, n, 1 but you need to use 1200, e, 7, 1 |

Wait... I just realized something. Based on the log that you posted, I suspect you have Direct Connect checked for the connector. If you go into the connector's settings, uncheck Direct connect. That option is only used when you're connecting to a TAP Terminal directly via Serial cable. |

In addition to Tech Support's suggestion - you will find that using SNPP to reach American Messagng to be FAR more efficient than TAP - I would suggest using it as a primary path and use TAP as an automatic failover backup in the event that PageGate loses internet connectivity_________________ Aaron D. OzCom:thanks for the suggestion. We are using the pager system as a critical last line notification, that is why we need TAP.
Tech Support: Is the direct connect used for external modems? The Multitech I have is using a serial connection. However, modem scan with pagegate does not pick it up. It does show in device manager as being on com1. The diagnostics successfully query the modem and I have tested it as working.

You would only use the 'direct connect' option if you had a serial cable connected directly to a paging terminal. You wouldn't want to use that option if there is a modem involved. |

We have MANY installations fo PageGate in critical communications facilities (Public Safety fire/police/ems dispatch centers). You will find that SNPP is significantly faster than TAP (if the wireless carrier supports it). Best practice would be to set up 2 carriers (example Paging Company TAP and Paging Company SNPP). Point the RECIPIENT to Paging Company SNPP. Under the advanced tap of Paging Company SNPP, set the failover to Paging Company TAP. This way, ALL traffic for that recipient will go out over SNPP - if the system does not see a success code, it will then automatically grab dial tone and send the message to the paging company via TAP_________________ Aaron D.
