If you would, please run this test:

1) In Windows, go to Start - Run.

2) In the Run line, type the following and click OK: command

3) In the command prompt, type the following and hit enter:

telnet smtp-bb.vtext.com 25

Let me know what the response is.

Hello,

I am also having recent issues where I am suddenly unable to SMTP to Verizon Wireless and AT&T phones. There are a few similar threads here from my research. MPD is a registered user of PageGate.

Here is the result of my telnet to smtp-bb.vtext.com 25, as it is one of the ones that is not accepting messages from me all of a sudden.

554 njbrspamp2.vtext.com

Connection to host lost.

I have made no software changes to precipitate this issue, it just stopped functioning. Pages sent to American Messaging pagers and Nextel phones via SNPP continue to work normally for the most part.

The 554 rejection notice means that Verizon is no longer accepting direct DNS requests from your network, probably due to a bad MTA record on your ISP's side of things.

I need you to give your ISP or network admin a call and ask them these questions:

1) What SMTP Server should I use?

2) Does the SMTP Server require authentication?

2a) If it does require authentication, what authentication information is required?

When you get those answered, email me at support at notepage dot com (I assume you wouldn't want to post sensitive information like this) and we'll reconfigure the program.

I just tried to talk with Comcast and they basically told me to pound sand because I wasn't the account holder. I was hoping to obtain info from them directly as nailing down our town's IT Director, explaining to him what I'm trying to accomplish, and having him call as the account holder is going to be virtually impossible.

I know Comcast is blocking port 25 and requires an alternate port for their own SMTP servers, as I have to use an alternate port when sending e-mail via smtp.comcast.net .

Right now I'm using e-mails via Outlook through our town's exchange server to send out pages to these phones. Is there a way to configure Pagegate to use this exchange server? I'm also a registered user of Notpager Pro, but I can't get it to send them through our exchange server, they are rejected every time. This is likely something I'm doing wrong. Do you have any thoughts on that as an alternative? As we spent the $$ on Pagegate and it's a very effective program for us I'd like to continue using it, but this is a real nightmare at this point.

I appreciate the help as this is almost certainly no fault of your software, but external forces of evil hell bent on ruining my day.... :-)

To reconfigure PageGate to use your Exchange Server, this is what you'll want to do:

1) Open the PageGate Admin.

2) Go to the Connectors - Global - SMTP section.

3) Put a check in "Relay All Mail"

4) In the Relay Server field, enter the Exchange server.

5) Click on Apply.

If your Exchange server requires authentication, you'll need to go into the Advanced sub-section of the SMTP based carriers. Then, in the Auth|Pass field, you'll need to enter the username and password in this format:

email@domain.com|whatever

Thanks for the fast response.

Naturally, now our Exchange server is down. :)

As soon as it comes back to life I'll give this a whirl. I appreciate it very much.

Scott

Scott,

In August Verizon shut down their SMTP Relay servers.
http://support.vzw.com/information/smtp_shutdown.html

I discovered this only recently when some of our Verizon users complained they were not getting their pages.

I did discover that Verizon does support the SNPP protocol which has been working great.
The SNPP address for Verizon is: snpp.myairmail.com port # 444

As far as I was aware, you could only message Verizon pagers through their SNPP hosts. Has this changed?
