PostForum: PageGate Support   Posted: Tue Jul 19, 2016 11:01 am   Subject: SMS Messages not being received - Log shows Successful
I'm having an issue with messages being sent, and the logs showing them being sent successfully, but they are never received. They are all SMS messages. And it does work sometimes. If I cue up several messages, I might receive maybe half of them.

We are using PageGate 5 (I know it's old, but it's been working) and a MultiTech MTCBA-C modem with Verizon.

I'm pretty confident that PageGate is doing its thing because the email messages are always sent. It's just the SMS messages that are the issue.

I'm trying to track down where the disconnect is happening. If PageGate was unable to talk to Verizon, I'm assuming there would be a different result than Successful. AT+CSQ results with 20, so I'd assuming I have decent cell signal.

Any other ideas what could be happening or what I might do to track this down?

Thanks for your help.

This is true. But the biggest group I have is 125 so I guess I can deal with a couple of minutes. Especially if I can't count on Verizon to at least be consistent.

Well, I did what you said. Set my carrier limit at 10, queued 11 individual different messages, turned Scheduler on and it dialed, sent 10, hung up, dialed again and sent 1.

I received all 11.

This is where this whole thing is tricky, screwy, goofy, whatever.

I know the last time someone griped to me about missing pages was back on the 15th. I looked that message up in my logs. It's 53 characters long. Certainly not a short one. It went to 10 people and at least 4 did not get it; some are Verizon customers.

I don't remember if by default PageGate has any carrier limit. But that's the only thing I've changed since that time is trying different numbers in the carrier limit.

Now today I change the limit to 10, send 11 and they all go perfectly.

This is just a screwed up mess. Not PageGate's deal, though. PageGate does the same thing every time you use it, like it should. It's all Verizon and their system acting different ways depending on the day.

I'm going to leave my carrier limit at 3, send myself tests every now and then and hope it continues to work like it does today. If it does, wonderful. If not, who knows? What more can I do really?

Thanks for all of your help.

Because I'm sending Group pages, I can't really customize messages for individual users. So it's true I don't really know which messages I got or missed.

I only ever have any problems when I'm sending Group pages, never when I send individual messages.

Mine was "Test 2 of 3 at a time" and "Test 3 of 3 at a time".

All of these went. When I had my limit set at 5, sending 10 messages, of which I got 4, it said "Test to 5 users".

It went to 10 users and again I only got 4.

How did you get them to track your messages so quickly? It takes an act of God to get them to track something for me. :)

I'm going to keep testing mine every couple days. What happens if you change your limit to 2 or 1?

I just bumped my carrier limit down to 3.

Sending to the same 10 person group, I just sent a few messages and got every single one!

This could be a wonderful day.

For anyone else having this problem, go to the Advanced Settings on your carrier you use for SMS and change the Msg Limit to 3. It takes a little longer for your messages to go, but it would appear you're going to have a much better chance of them actually making it.

Aaron,

I was hoping you'd hop in here. I assumed it was something like that.

So it sounds to me, like I figured, that Verizon has some shoddy SMS service. At least for my purposes anyway.

I have been on my rep's case to get this figured out. This just confirms to me that they have some 'splainin' to do.

Thank you for all the help.

Could it have something to do with the fact that I'm doing this with Verizon, who is not GSM, but CDMA?

I set this up with Aaron Osbourne, a frequent poster on this site and am confident in him, though I haven't run this error by him.

I just created 9 more of myself, added all 10 of me to a group and sent the group a message. Does it look correct to you? The reason I ask is that I only received 4 of the 10 messages. My guess is that it's Verizon still screwing me and I'll take it up with them, but I saw a couple of "ERROR" lines in there and wanted to clear it with you before I light them up again.

Thank you,

Jeff

PostForum: PageGate Support   Posted: Thu Apr 01, 2010 2:43 pm   Subject: Carrier Message Limit
And that's what that setting is for? Sorry to be a n00b. I'm just making sure I understand before I set it.

So if I set a limit to 2, if I have a group of 10 messages that all go out the same carrier, PageGate will dial the carrier 5 times and send 2 messages each time, correct?

Thanks for your help.
