| Thanks again Aaron. ;-)
I posted on the forum because I was wondering if anyboby else has already try to solve a similar issue with IBM Director in VMWare. Sylvain Fluet Technical Analyst Montreal, QC, Canada |

| Good day,
We currently use a physical Windows 2003 server for our IBM Director servers monitoring. IBM Director send the alerts through a dialup modem using the TAP protocol and the alert is then send to our "Bell Mobilty" Blackberry's. We have a project to virtualize the IBM Director server. Since "Bell Mobilty" does not support SNPP on Blackberry's yet (only pagers) and we dont want to use SMTP, we are stuck. I then saw some post about using Pagegate and a cellular modem with IP connectivity to solve that issue. If I understand right, we need this: Pagegate Pagegate option for TAP Cellular modem with IP connectivity (cellular modem type for Bell Mobility = CDMA) When all is going to be installed and configure, it will work like this: We have to install the cellular modem virtual COM port driver on the IBM Director VMWare server IBM Director will "dial" to this virtual COM port and send a TAP message Pagegate will be the TAP receiver Pagegate will convert the TAP message to SMS Pagegate will send the SMS to the cellular modem The cellular modem will send the SMS to the right Blackberry FYI, IBM Director can send alerts in many ways but only 3 are usable on a virtualized server: TAP with a virtual COM, SMTP or "launch a program with variable inputs like message, intended receiver, etc" Finally, we have look at 2 cellular modems with IP connectivity that works with Bell Mobility Canada: Bluetree BT-6600 http://www.bluetreewireless.com/products/wireless/details.asp?id=42 Multitech MTCBA-C-EN-N12-NAM http://www.multitech.com/en_US/PRODUCTS/Families/MultiModemCDMA/ 2 questions: Is that the right way to do it ? Are those modems OK to do that job ? Any suggestions are welcome... Thanks in advance... Sylvain Fluet Technical Analyst Montreal, QC, Canada |
