I just solved this for our install and thought it may help others:

Setup: PageGate 5 on a Win7 64-bit workstation. AT&T Lightning USB connected GSM modem. Carrier is AT&T. Modem is registered with AT&T for text messaging only, no broadband connection.

For the installation, I followed the Win7 instructions posted on the NotePage site and allowed the pagegate executeables full access in and out of the windows firewall.

After much troubleshooting I found that the AT&T connection manager was holding the COM port hostage and PageGate was unable to access it. I had to set the connection manager to Not manager the modem and to not start at windows startup.

For the connector, I set the init string to (auto), the dialing prefix was left empty, the serial port was set to match the modems com port number, and the direct connect checkbox is de-selected (open).

For the carrier the protocol was set to GSM-AT, and the typical serial connection (9600, 8, none, 1) were used. The init string was set to (auto) and the max chars was left at the default.

I hope this helps anyone troubleshooting similar issues or starting out new.
