Is it possible to export my recipients from a version 7 server and import them into a version 8 server? I was hoping not to overwrite the whole thing but instead skip the existing records. When I attempt that, I get an error box that it was an "Invalid input file".

I am struggling with getting a TAP connection working with PG8 on a Server 2016 machine. I was once able to get a USB to Serial connection to work but if I try either the built-in COM1 port or a third-party serial port (COM2 as seen by Windows), neither will work. No pages go through. The only thing in the connector log when I try to send a page are things like this:

========================================
1/30/2020 8:41:56 AM Start connection to carrier: ZETRON
1/30/2020 8:41:56 AM Connect using TAP protocol
1/30/2020 8:41:56 AM Setting communication parameters (9600,e,7,1)
1/30/2020 8:41:56 AM Connected to carrier
1/30/2020 8:41:56 AM Waiting for protocol initialization
1/30/2020 8:41:56 AM Sent:<CR>
1/30/2020 8:41:58 AM Sent:<CR>
1/30/2020 8:42:02 AM Sent:<CR>
1/30/2020 8:42:06 AM Sent:<CR>

I am connecting to a Zetron paging system through a serial to cat5 adapter that was in production and working fine on a Windows 7 machine running PG6. The settings of the new server's carrier and connetors match the old system.

One question about the specific Connector setting is this: Under the connector Serial Port drop down, it will list a Com Port 0. What is this? Do Com Ports 1-4, correspond the the Com Ports that Windows sees?

Alright, that was the money right there!

If it helps anyone else with a situation like this, this template "text" in my case is "PFA×"(most likely) or "PFBØ"(for stations with a second crew 'quarters' configured)(quotes not included with the text) . I verified with a couple stations that their tones worked. Thanks for the quick help!

We are migrating from a version 6 server to a version 8 server. Both physical. The older server has about 15 recipients that are really Lantronix IP to Serial devices at fire stations. The devices take a command from PG, turn this into serial communication which then trigger relays for some electrical items at the stations.

The working server uses small files with the .mtp extension. The files are named the same as the recipient we are trying to contact. For example, a file might be called 9991101.mtp for the recipient 9991101. The recipient points to a carrier with the correct IP address and port of the Lantronix device. These files are located in the Program's PageGate folder. The same folder where pgadmin.exe and PageGate.exe are found

I have these same files (copied from the working server) on the new server in the same PageGate directory, but when I send a test message to any of the new recipients, I get no results at the stations. PG thinks it has worked-I get a Successful message in the monitor and I can ping the remote Lantronix devices so I know I have good network connectivity.

With version 8 would these .mtp files need to be in a different directory? What am I missing? Service restart maybe?

I am installing the version 8 GUI client on a workstation under a domain admin account. I set up the settings to point to our server and set the radio button to set the settings for all local users. When I then log on as a general, non-admin user and run the program, I am presented with the screen called "Server Database" which has one editable field in it called "Server Database". The value in this field shows my correct server information. when I click Apply, the program opens up just fine. If I close down and re-open it is fine. The problem arises when I log off the user, log back on, and re-run the program, I am again presented with this Server Database window. Rinse and repeat.

What permissions, if any, am I missing with the setup of a GUI client on a workstation?

I have it working now! I remembered I had a USB to Serial adapter in my laptop bag and I tried that and voila, it worked over COM4. There is something not working with the motherboard-based COM ports, I think. It occurred to me because on the older working server, PageGate uses the COM port through an additional PCI card and not on the system's on-board COM port.

I'll test a bit longer but I think this will work. I suppose I could get a PCI COM port card and try that as well.

Now onto the other task I need to solve.. Getting a Version 8 virtual server to work over a LanTronix IP to Serial device. That is ultimately where I want to go with all of this...

With all connectors stopped Putty still won't open COM1. I have run ProcessExplorer to try and see what is holding it open but it comes up empty. I have uninstalled/reinstalled the COM port, updated the BIOS and half a dozen other things but nothing is working. Server 2016 on an HP EliteDesk 800 computer. It sees two com ports, COM1 and COM3 (mapped as "Intel(R) Active Management Technology - SOL".
I have tried leaving the com ports at their default settings and even setting the ports to the settings that PG needs to use. So far, all to no avail.....

Hmm, even after shutting down the connector and even disabling it, Putty still won't connect. Reboot??

Yes, I am trying to connect directly to a paging system. I am using the very cable and COM port/CAT5 adapter from the working system.

On the new system, I am using the only available physical COM port (not a VM) so I assume this will be COM1 (also says so in Device Mangler)

I have the registration all in there now and can send SMTP messages to my phone. What I am struggling with is getting messages out to a pager over TAP. I have an old V6 Page Gate server that works fine to TAP devices but when Iset the V8 machine the same way, I canot get the pages out. Basically the log files look like this...

There will be some differences we'll need to make between the two versions. Things like the Com port used (Version 7 is a virtual machine), Some carriers are no longer used and other little things.

I'll try what you say and report back if I need additional help.

I have a production database in a server with version 7. We are standing up a version 8 server but need the config from the version 7 server. Will the DB from version 7 work on a version 8 server? There are differences in the way the email and stuff is configured and my first time trying this was unsuccessful.
