We have moved our Solarwinds NPM and PageGate to a new machine and now we cannot get NPM to recognize that PageGate is installed and running. We had this same problem when we first setup PageGate a year ago but unfortunately we did not document how it was resolved.

Both products are on the same machine.

PageGate Server, Admin, and Monitor are all installed and running.

We have used NotePage install instructions for setting up the ASCII interface.

When Configuring alerts inside of NPM and we get to the step to 'Add an Action' and we choose 'Dial Paging or SMS Service' it pops up an error window which reads: "Notepage has not been installed"

We moved our PageGate to a new computer and it installed without errors or problems, yet when we go to 'Run PageGate as: Windows Service' we are never prompted for user credentials and it never installs the services.

If we switch back to 'Run PageGate as: Application' and then try to run the actual app, it never starts and never shows up in the list of Windows Processes.

We have restarted the computer several times and even re-installed the PageGate programs multiple times but it always ends with the same results.

Well....while the Orion Network Performance Monitor supports PageGate and takes care of everything for you...their Trap Receiver does not. The "Send to Pager" option is not available in that particular application. However it does support "Send to File" and we can specifiy the destination directory, the filename, and the file contents. This is why I need to know if the filename must be a specific name and/or extension, and if the contents of the file must contain or omit anything specifically.

Ok. We are already configured for an ASCII receiver and the Solarwinds Trap Receiver has the ability to generate alerts in text format into whatever directory we like so it looks like this will work for us. However I have two follow-up questions on this same issue:

Is there a filename and extension requirement for files placed in the ASCII folder?

Once the ASCII reeiver processes a new file in its directory, does it delete the file or move it elsewhere?

We have PageGate installed on the same machine as as our Solarwinds NPM Orion server and it is receiving alerts and intiating outbound paging without a problem on objects which we actively poll and monitor. However, there are a number of objects which we do not actively poll yet from which we do receive traps. However the Solarwinds Trap Monitor application does not have an alert action option to send data to the PageGate application.

How do we setup an alert action in the Trap Monitor application to send data to PageGate?

PostForum: PageGate Support   Posted: Thu Oct 08, 2009 11:15 am   Subject: AT&T TAP gateway error messages
When our PageGate server attempts to send a page to a 'group' of recipients using the AT&T TAP gateway, it will frequently work for the first recipient in the group, but then the AT&T TAP gateway will kick up an error during the transmission of the second or subsequent recipients which says: "507 LOGON REJECTED - CARRIAGE RETURN MISSING AFTER LOGIN SEQUENCE"

After this error, it will hang up the modem and try to send the message once again to the remaining recipients. It may receive the message shown above two or three times in a row before successfully sending the message.

Any ideas on what could be causing this?

How are the maximum number of retries for outbound TAP transmissions set?

Assuming that the TAP gateway which is being called either does not answer, kicks up an error during transmission, or generates some other kind of error which results in a failed transmission attempt - how many times will PageGate continue to try and send the associated page before it gives up?

Who can tell me which of the 105 ASCII character set is accepted by the AT&T TAP gateway (aside from the standard QWERTY and Num keys)?
