Those look ok.

One thing that can cause the error is if the carrier name in the users record doesn't match a carrier name in the carriers table (capitalization counts).
Well, right now I only have one user in that table, and it was created with the Admin program. I know the carrier is good because I selected it from the list in the UI.

Any other suggestions?

Yeah, I realize that, but this error is thrown by PageGate Admin itself when connecting to the SQL database I created from scratch, using the current schema.

We currently use version 4 of PageGate and I connect the messages and users table to a SQL Server so I can provide a web based front end for managing users.

I'm trying to do the same thing with version 7 but when I run the admin program it crashes when trying to access the settings panel for any user. It's very odd, I can view all the other sections. I can even create users. But when I click settings I get the following error:

Error #383 Invalid operation in Procedure: edit_user load

Has anyone else integrated PageGate with SQL server successfully? Thanks.

Well, I guess I could always find another modem and give that a shot.

Do you guys have a list of modems you've had good experience with?

It's a Motorola UDS v.3229. We're on a 9600 baud leased line. It's connected to a standard rs-232 serial port. And we are running Windows 2003 SP1.

PostForum: PageGate Support   Posted: Tue Nov 07, 2006 1:58 pm   Subject: TAP Problems
We've been experiencing a situation where the system will fail to send TAP pages and requires us to reset the modem to correct.

I spoke to the technicians at our paging provider, and they think that something in the conversation between systems is getting out of sync. They say that when this happens, their system will send an <EOT> to reset the conversation per the protocol spec (according to them). However, PageGate ignores this and continues to send <ESC>PG1<CR>. So the connection is never reset and we have to manually drop the line so PageGate will reset.

I'm pasting in a portion of our logs so you can see what's happening. I don't pretend to understand the subtleties of the TAP protocol, but maybe this will shed some light on what's happening, and more importantly, how to fix! The first entry here is a successful page, then the problem starts and you can see two failures to negotiate. This will continue until we power cycle the modem.

Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on our issue.

Dana

PostForum: PageGate Support   Posted: Mon Mar 14, 2005 5:39 pm   Subject: Two questions: DB Maintenance and Windows Server 2003
First question, is there a way to reduce the database on a periodic basis? We are shoveling nearly 3000 pages a day through Pagegate and so our database is getting real big, real fast.

Secondly, we are moving Pagegate to it's own server. Is Windows Server 2003 supported yet?

Thanks

Actually, all 4 of my dialers are returning those messages.

Yes I am licensed for 4 dialers.

Dialer 1 is used for smtp pages only so it's settings are default.

Dialer 2 is used for a dedicated line. It's settings are:
init string: (auto)
Dialing Prefix: blank
Dedicated Carrier: Metrocall-TAP (our carrier)
Serial Port: 1
Direct Connect: checked

Hello, we are running PageGate using the getAscii module, and a dedicated line to our paging carrier (Metrocall). What is happening is that every time a page is sent to our carrier I get a log entry in my system event logs:

The PageGate Dialer2 service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 10 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 0 milliseconds: No action.

Also, I get a corresponding log entry in the application logs that says the PGDial2 service was started.

Is this normal behavior?

Ok, I'm at my wits end. I can make our paging app work by using the ascii module... but I'd really like to be able to pull reports off of the messaging table through SQL Server. But I can't get the message table to work.

Every time I link the message table to SQL Server, the scheduler stops working. It doesn't throw any errors or show any useful logging information, it just sits there and says "running cleanup routine", and none of the other modules (ascii, dialers) start.

I realize you guys don't support this.... but do you have any info on what the scheduler does with the messages table on start up? If I just knew what it was trying to do I think I could nail this down.

Thx

I got it to work! Apparently PGAdmin was trying to insert a null into a column with type 'bit'. Once I set all the bit type columns to default to 0, everything is working.

So now I have the users and group tables moved to SQL. I'm still having trouble with the message table though. Seems that the Scheduler doesn't want to start when that table has been moved to SQL. There's got to be an issue with a default value or data type. This one is hard though because the program is not returning errors... it just doesn't work. Even ODBC trace isn't returning useful data. So I'm not sure what the issue is yet. But I'll tweak some more.

It would be tremendously helpful to have somebody who's done this to share thier table settings here. I'll gladly share mine when I get things nailed down. But there are a lot of little differences between Access and SQL and it's really hard trying to find the problems with no error messages or debugging to rely on.

If there's one feature I'm sure everyone would love to see in future versions it's "real" SQL support. :)

Yep, I checked that. It appears to get a bad response the first time and then no response after that. i know I can connect because I can go out to a command line and telnet to thier server on port 80 and get a response. So I'm not exactly sure where to start troubleshooting. The error messages I get are:
